Need ideas for groom's attire!

Tasha, on December 15, 2015 at 1:30 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 19

My fiance is 6'7" and has not had positive experiences with formal wear in the past as he has a very lean build and the suits he has worn previously have made him feel scrawny. He also in general isn't a huge fan of formal wear and likes to be comfortable. My dress is more on the formal side (see below) so I would love for him to wear a suit but I don't know if that will happen. Does anyone have photos of their tall grooms in different fits of suits? Or have ideas of alternatives? Any suggestion or comment will help. Thanks! Smiley smile

He needs to get a tailored suit.

Agreed. I'm not sure where you live but Men's Warehouse has suits for all sizes, that's where my FH shops for his (he's 6'6")

I agree have him rent/ buy a tailored suit. I would also suggest a 3 piece suit so he can take off the jacket after pictures (or during if he wants) and not feel scrawny. DH is 5'8'' and one of his GM is 6'4'' and they all looked great in the 3 piece suit. It was from Mens Warehouse.

A well tailored suit won't make him feel scrawny. The #1 place a jacket needs to fit is in the shoulders. Everything else can be tailored, but shoulders would require extensive work. I'd also look for things like trim, slim, or tailored in the fit description & then just make sure you get the long size of the blazer (most come in regular, short & long).

Any quality men's suiting place will have onsite tailors, but we've had success with an independent tailor as well. My FH is on the opposite end of the spectrum (he's 5'6") and has a lot of difficulty finding suits that fit well, too. But when he wears a well tailored suit, damn.

If you have a Nordstrom close you to, the Men's Half-Yearly sale is coming up soon & would be a great time to check out suits on a deal (it starts on the 26th normally).

We had a bad experience with Men's Warehouse. DH's suit was so ill fitting he went out and bought a suit at Express two days before the wedding. Other people might have had better experiences though.

My husband is tall, 6' 3" and lean. He went with a slim fit style. Sorry, I don't know much about Men's wear.

I don't have any ideas for tuxes, but I can't let that dress picture go without a comment. It is GORGEOUS.

@SimpleSeamstress Oh no! Thanks for your feedback, I've only bought two suits from them. FH is wearing his ASUs to our wedding.

Previous suits probably made him feel scrawny because they did not fit him properly. My DH prefers a modern, slim cut. For the wedding, he bought a suit on sale at Nordstrom and had some alterations done for a perfect fit.

I agree with Melissa that a 3-piece would be the best option so your FH can ditch the jacket for the reception if he wants and still look special (for lack of a better word).

    Your dress is gorgeous, btw.

I don't know if you have considered renting tuxes. But my cousin is 6'6" and had no issues with our fitted athletic fit tux. He also rented shoes for his size 14 feet and they worked well too.

Tailored suit will be good. My FH is not wearing a tux but rather a very nice navy suit

OMG that dress! The back! Gorgeous. My fiance is tall and thin too. We are looking, this weekend actually, at pants and vests combos. Less formal (but still very classy) and easier to fit than a suit jacket. It's also a little old-fashioned which might go nicely with that lace gem!

I don't know what your wedding venue theme is...country, city, mountain, ocean, rustic, barn, etc, but I do love the casual, yet formal vest and tie.

My DH wore a slim cut Kenneth Cole suit from Boscovs as did his groomsman. DH, BM, and one of the groomsmen are over 6 ft tall.

FH is also 6'7" thin build. Nothing fits him. We purchased a nice suit with vest from Men's Warehouse. We paid the extra money for all the custom tailoring. He looks soooooo good!

This is what my fiance is wearing. He said it was comfortable, and it's on the more formal side.

    Also, that dress is stunning.

Buy a suit custom tailored to him! He will be able to wear it for the rest of his life.
