Need advice/opinions- you can't ask your bridesmaids to do that!!

Maggie, on June 25, 2014 at 11:24 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 22

So I hope I don't gross anyone out here but...

Unfortunately my period is off schedule and I will now have it for my wedding this weekend (I'm in that stage where I can tell it should be starting any time now) but I got to thinking... my dress is pretty big and I doubt I'm going to be able to handle holding my dress and getting to the bathroom, but what the @#&%Y am I supposed to do since I'm on my period?!?!

I cannot ask my bridesmaids to hold up my dress while I change my tampon, talk about above and beyond the call of duty!

Any previous brides who got married on their period found a solution to this problem or anyone have any ideas??

My bridesmaids were my oldest and dearest friends, they would have held my dress up for me.

    if that's not possible,

the ladies on TheKnot suggest the diva cup (no personal experience)

the WeddingBee ladies suggested a maxi pad and a super tampon (sexy I know)

I've helped out a friend in need once. And it wasn't her wedding, either. For me- it's not a big deal. I would ask your friends and see if they are open to the idea of helping you and then go from there.

    Good luck!

I would do it for one of my girls on her big day and I know a few of mine would do it for me! We all go through it, sucks, but it happens!

If you can tolerate NSAIDS they can lighten your flow 25-35%. I would not try the cup out on your wedding day. They aren't one size fits all and if not in correctly will leak.

I would help a friend out.

Best... thing I have EVER EVER EVER in my life bought....

    http://www.lunette.com/

You can go 12 hours (I have gone longer before with no issues) .. and it is freaking amazing. So if you put it in right before dress time, should last you just fine until you get out of the dress again.

Should add...if you are worried about leaks, throw on a pad but seriously, I have never had a leak once and I was so scared I put it in wrong and never have. It is a breeze to deal with. I just take care of it in the shower.

I have no idea why I did not switch to this sooner. I would scream this from the roof. Best...thing...ever...invented.

Hahaha I thought the trash bag meant put it on and just pee in that and then empty later. Thank god I read the actual instructions. It's too early for me here in Michigan lol.

If your dress is that big they shouldn't be able to see anything. Or you could just have them look away a little bit.

I've held a friends dress while she dealt with her tampon. I just didn't look!

I second the menstrual cup though. I LOVE mine. I too worried it would leak a first if I didn't get it in right but I have had no issues at all!

As long as I just had to hold the dress and not do any of the dirty work I'd help a friend out.

My MOH would totally do that for me. It's not wrong to ask for help. I do agree with the diva cup (Im looking into using that)

But then again, my MOH is my sister and i have had to help her shave certain areas while she was pregnant so she could go swimming.

I'm assuming your MOH/BMs are females which means they know all about periods lol. Honestly I would have no problem helping my friend out and I know she wouldn't think twice about it either.

I would totally hold the dress out of the way, but there's no way I'm doing the insertion/removal. I mean, what if I miss and claw the bride's bidness or something? That's a bridge too far.

I was worried about the having to pee part at our wedding. I had my girls BE SURE I peed multiple times while getting ready, and RIGHT before I got into the dress, I made sure to pee again.

The event was a total of 5 hours. As long as you aren't drinking a CRAP ton before and during, you should be fine. Make sure your BM's remind you to pee a lot before you get into the dress.

By the time we had to do our sparkler exit, I knew I had to pee, but I just changed out of my big dress into my exit dress. I REALLY had to pee when we got back to our hotel, and all was fine. That's the first thing I did when we got into our room.

Bottom line: My BMs would have worked it out to help me and yours would help you with holding the dress up too if needed! One BM even went up my dress to put on my garter since I couldn't really do it myself right before the toss. I had sweaty legs and all... she had done it a couple of times before for different brides at their weddings.

No worries. Change your tampon before you get into your dress and all should be fine.

I love this post. I would ask my sister to help - she wouldn't mind at all. This reminds me of my first experience with a tampon where my MOM had to assist. I still can't believe it to this day (both that I asked and that she did it). I know - gross story, but I love it! Ahhh - to be 12 again. Crazy times.
