My Makeup Trial -__- (Opinions please?)

Nicole, on January 27, 2012 at 3:56 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 71

So today was my makeup trial.

I had originally thought I would do my makeup myself, but one of my BM convinced me to go to a salon that does hair and MU. So I found a salon that did, and they said they would give us breakfast and mimosas the day of-- so I was pretty excited.

I went in, and gave her the instructions "clean, simple, not too-heavy, winged line, neutral lid, possible red lip"... and 70 dollars later, I came out looking like a cheap, ambiguously sexed hooker.

I mean, don't get me wrong. It would be OK for stage makeup... but its a little strong for a wedding, dont you all think?

Anyway-- this is what I need an opinion on. I came home and took it all off, and re-did my own face... do ya'll think its OK? I would probably add false lashes, since that's the only part I liked of my trial.

Opinions welcome Smiley smile

Definitely like your version better! I have heard false lashes are great! I've never needed them since I have naturally long lashes. I think your make-up looks great! I will also be doing my own make-up. It's a great way to save and stay on budget!! Smiley laugh

I actually think #1 photographs better. You have to think about how the make up is going to photograph since that is what you are going to have to visually remember the day. #2 is nice, but may not last like the prof make up will. I derfinitely don't think you like anything like hooker, ambiguously sexed or not.

Ultimately you have to do what you are comfortable with though bc THAT will definitely showin your photos if you're not happy w how you look

I like the foundation she used on you, but not the eyeshadow. I think it photographs better, but that's just me.

Wow--you don't even need makeup. Your skin is gorgeous! I like yours better BUT you might need more in regards to pictures--not hooker like though! Smiley smile I'd see what some of the makeup people here have to say in that regards.

The first pic appears to have a lighting the second one doesn't. I think you photograph well in the second one. I have issue with crazy eyebrows so I think you did MUCH better.

@Rae R.-- I agree with you on that. I used my regular Maybelline Smooth Mousse, but for the actually day I'll probably use MAC studio fix like she used because it is a LOT thicker and holds up longer.

I agree with Mrs. B to Be. Keep in mind that make-up photographs differently and sometimes you need a heavier hand for it to actually be seen in photographs. However, if you feel that the make-up has altered the way you look in such a way that it doesn't really "look" like you anymore, I say go with doing your own.

I actually like the first one. If you could combine the way you did your foundation/cheeks with the way she did your eyes (minus the super heavy eyebrow definition), I think you'll have a *winning* look. You're gorgeous either way but do what you feel most comfortable in!

I also think you need to keep in mind the photographs. You do not want to look washed out with all the lights from the cameras. Just tell the MUA to go easy on the eyebrows.

THANK YOU everyone for the nice comments/opinions Smiley smile)

@Mrs B & Jill G--- I do agree with yall about her makeup photographing better. I definitely don't want to look avg on the day of, so I will probably combine a few of her aspects (like a longer lasting/thicker foundation and a setting spray, and maybe more eye definition).

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has issues with heavy eyebrows..does anyone think the colors of the eyeshadow may be part of the issue in the first one?

Ooooh my word.. yea no.. your make up is SO SO SO much better! I especially love the way you did the liner! so cute and a little retro! ;D

At the very least you can take YOUR photo back there and have her re-do your make up based on that.. ?

I agree Jill, the eyebrow definition is a bit heavy in the first and I also think your blush is better.

Did you look in detail before you left or were you just like "hell no I'm outta here"?

The MUA may've adjusted to fine tune what you want. Yes you gave her/him instruction, but esp if they haven't worked with you, make up and a natural look is some what subjective. Communicate to them you want a bit of a bolder cheek and to not define your eyebrows so much.

Either way you won't go wrong b/c you are beautiful and with look great with either look!

I also agree with FMC the 2nd pic look like you took it in a brighter spot or where was more light..damn phone pics Smiley smile
