My joy was stolen from me

DaMcCants, on September 3, 2016 at 9:27 PM Posted in Planning 0 43

I know many of you read this title as if I'm being sarcastic and I wish I truly was, but this unfortunately was how things really went down. I dearly love the man I married, and I can't help but to think how this joyous moment I was suppose to experience was stolen from me because of individuals who got caught up in their feelings. They felt I was being rude. (You know the bride's day) I've always dreamt my wedding day to be a very special day w/ tears of joy & happiness. My day was filled w/ an unsettling feeling of "lets just get this day over with!. Not because I didn't want to marry my husband but because of the constant arguments I had defending a wish my husband & I wanted for Our wedding day. Constant fighting of my bridal party, the rude behavior of my mother & sister towards my bridal party i.e. bridal shower even down to the Bachorlette party I was never excited to have a single event due to all the cautious I experienced. No one help us pay so why do many opinions!?

I feel you! I am ready to just get married so I can say finally! Once that music starts for my BP walk, I will be excited. Until then it's all family drama lol.

My only advice is- you walked away from the wedding with him, and that's what matters. Friends and family are just additives to your life now Smiley smile

They will get over it, or they won't.

My husband & I took 2 years to plan our wedding. For 2 years we've been telling people there are no kids allowed. Website we posted states no kids.. Invitations we sent out states adult reception only. Our invitation lady told me the proper etiquette was to only state it on The RSVP CARD so we did. Well about 2 months before the wedding I got a called asking if kids can come to the wedding... Which I stood my ground and said no. However because I made no exception for my brother (who lives out of state). I was told I was rude and selfish. Even though I had a babysitter lined up to watch his kids for his wife and him to attend.

¯\_(?)_/¯ i see nothing wrong. We went the no kids route as well except for our child and another relative who is our flower girl( and her siblings since they are OOS and she has to be there).

We met resistance and like you offered a sitter (CPR certified and all) at the hotel everyone is staying at. Like it or leave it- it's our wedding Smiley smile

Oh. That whole thing. I've dealt with that throughout my planning process as well. But here is the thing--you cannot control the past and you cannot control the behavior of others. What you DO have power over is your own reactions and how you will choose to move forward.

"However because I made no exception for my brother (who lives out of state). I was told I was rude and selfish. Even though I had a babysitter lined up to watch his kids for his wife and him to attend."

That was your decision, but when you make a decision, you have to deal with the fact that some may be upset about that decision. So your mom and sister were rude about it. Okay. How was your joy "stolen"? You still got to marry the love of your life? You still got the full wedding day? No one can steal that from you and the marriage is what should be the real joy.

I had a full blow fall out with my family over this. It got so bad my husband mother decided she wanted to get involved and tried to play mediator. I explained to her we were not budging in our decision & about a week later everyone apologize to me and states it was my day and it should be how I want it. GREAT! Thinking..... We've moved passed this. it's closer and closer to our day & we're at the wedding rehearsal & all of a sudden the subject comes up again. We get thru the rehearsal, looking at the reception area & as we are leaving heading to the rehearsal dinner the groom & I get pulled aside by the pastor his wife, the groom's mom and his sister.... Stating how it doesn't says it on the INVITATION No kids allowed..... So here's my frustration.....Idk how or when it got mixed up especially after the massive family argument I just had the weekend of the 4th of july & how My husband mother been telling people they could bring their kids to the wedding but not the reception.

Some parents aren't comfortable with sitters that they don't know. it was nice of you to offer, but it is their right as parents to refuse. I'm sorry that you're disappointed, but you made your decision to not have children present, and it's time to move forward.

Apparently op posted as I posted.

The only rude thing, IF it transpires this way, was stating no kids in your invitation suite. It IS rude to state who is NOT invited anywhere within the invitations.

That said, beyond that, I don't see anything rude necessarily about this. Inconvenient for traveling guests? Sure. Rude? No.

Why in the hell did you allow something so trivial to "ruin your day" though? To me you're coming across as being very dramatic. You still had the wedding, right? Guests came, you had the reception, you're married, yes? You COULD have let yourself enjoy it, but you chose to focus on the negative instead. When people started speaking negatively, you could have told them it wasn't up for discussion and walked away or hung up. You chose not to. Showers Ms bachelorette parties are optional, so I don't even get your point there.

You allowed other people to put a negative light on your wedding day, because you gave them power over you. I don't see how they caused it so much as you not bothering to assert yourself and not allow this negativity to continue in the first place.

Question: Did any kids attend the ceremony or reception against your wishes??

Yes panda bear.. You are correct! the parents have a choice to refuse.... However don't fault me because you chose to refuse. My invitations where address accordingly to Mr and Mrs... That's it. It's so easy for others to say what I allowed to ruin my day when I didn't allow anything... I was back into a corner literally the day of my wedding rehearsal and forced to discuss something I had already made clear 2 months prior. My husband and I stand our grounds yes!. Yes I married the man I love! Yes I had my day but it was a tainted version of what I imagined. I wish that I was being dramatic I really really wish I was, but this unfortunately is what TRULY happen the entire wedding planning process. If you only knew how many times I tried to call off my shower or bachlorette party because of the drama. You would laugh but because you don't kno my family and friends you will never understand!
