Mother Attire...

KarenM, on February 25, 2014 at 8:41 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

So, this is sort of a spin off from KristinMichelle's post about everyone matching to a "t". My mother asked me about what she should wear to the wedding, and I was completely stymied. It honestly never occurred to me. That being said, I am now going to Nova Scotia this summer to go dress shopping for my Mom. I love the fact that she's excited. Was it a big deal for anybody else? or did you just let your mom pick out her dress?

My mom is waiting for me to pick my dress first. We still don't know what color or what kind of dress either. I think we at least know it will be knee length. Good luck!

My mom is picked out her own dress (essentially) but we're going together. She is soooo excited to go dress shopping. She wants my input and and we're making a weekend out of it. I can't wait.

Thanks everyone. Thanks JC for sharing. Mom has great taste, I think it's really just a ruse to get me to Canada.

My step-mom is free to pick out and wear whatever she wants, she has excellent fashion sense. My mom inn the other hand does not. She wore a white dress to my sister's wedding. She lives in Florida and is supposed to come up to PA next month and we are going to go dress shopping then. My colors are lapis, black, and silver. If they find something they love in those colors great, I am totally ok with that. As long as it's not a white dress or a hoochie dress, which with my mom is a possibility then I am ok.

My mom is self conscious about her weight and always wears black. It's totally fine with me as long as she's comfortable.

I just told my mom and MIL that No Green since that was what the bridesmaids were wearing. Beyond that, they were free to choose since they both have good taste. My mother actually found her dress the day I found mine. So it worked out perfectly.

My mom asked, but I told her I didnt care. Every dress she liked, she asked my opinion on. She bought it last week, but Im not sure which dress she ordered. My FMIL just wanted to coordinate, so she went to DB, where we got our BM dresses and got a dress the same exact shade as the girls.

My mom and dad were just asking me about this the other day and I didn't know the answer. I mean I know we can do whatever we want and I don't mind what they do. But do they typically match the wedding colors? A lot of weddings I have worked the mothers have worn colors that were part of the wedding so would I have them be in red like my girls. And since my dad is walking down the aisle should he be wearing a nice grey suit like all the guys and his dad just be in any suit? I mean I don't mind either way, but I do love red so the more the merrier haha Smiley smile

I went to a wedding this summer where the bride wore a very simple white tool a-line dress. No beading, no lace, no flowers, just very simple. Her mother however wore a full length mermaid gown that was pink sequins....I honestly thought it was a joke.

My mom and I now joke that she is going to wear a fully sequined gown as well.

My mom is excited to go shopping so I am excited for her. I want her to be confident and love her dress since the pictures will be hanging in her house. As long as it's not a fully sequined gown I don't care Smiley smile

I have no idea what either mom is wearing. My mom has great taste so I'm not concerned. She wore a gorgeous ivory dress/jacket to my first wedding. I wasn't involved in picking it out, we live 1,800 miles apart. As for FMIL, I have no idea. We're not close so I will not be participating in her wardrobe choices either. Hopefully they are both beachy and comfortable.

My mum is wearing something that she chose not to wear for my brother's wedding - ie. a REJECTED outfit that wasn't good enough for his but is good enough for her only Mother of the Bride moment.

I'm not bitter at all as you can tell….! ;-)

FMIL on the other hand did ask what our colours are and is buying a nice new outfit.

My Mom always knows the perfect thing to wear, so I'm not worried about her. However, the other day my FMIL told me she was planning on wearing a blue suit that she already has. A BLUE SUIT? It's time to go shopping!
