I just purchased the Becca EverMatte primer for oil control for my shower and I love it!!! its really thick so you just gave to dab it on your target areas but it worked wonders!

What would be the recommendation for those who don't really wear make up? I'd rather do it myself so I can control how different I'll look but I'm only really decent at eye make up and lip make up. The picture is an example of how I've done my make up in the past. It's only eye and lip make up.

    Good point Jo!

You are spot on about NYX's primer. I've put it up against SMBX's primer and had nearly identical results.

Bailey- that color is great on you!!! Across the board- any brand's color like that is SUPER wearable- but sigh- so PRETTY!!!

JeanMarie- that's how I Feel- like my brows are dark already- I have only sort of started doing them- it mostly just makes them look more polished- but I don't go in heavy with a pencil- but it seems to just make them a little more shaped. But I can easily go with out.

    FutureMrsKristen- you have the original?

Have you swatched 2 or 3? I love the rose gold one.

Or- MODERN RENAISSANCE!!! So brilliant. Actually that or self made- they are really good palettes.

LORAC unzipped is awesome to. SO PRETTY SO MUCH GOLD!!!

@Alyssa- lipstick is SO trial and error. Don't be afraid to return them!!

I only use a lip liner on 3 occasions.

    1.) ombre lip

2.) cream lip (vs a heavy matte- creams move more)

3.) I REALLY need it to stay put and not feather (this applies mostly to dark colors)

So I've bought a few matte lipsticks...I hate all of them. But FH hates shiny lips so does anyone have recommendations for a good matte that isn't too drying? Or is that just the way it goes with them?

Any suggestions on drying brushes? I feel like whenever I clean mine they take forever to dry and I may be doing something wrong.

@bookcase - you're correct, after moisturizer. I found for myself, that if I put the primer on and it makes the foundation look cakey, it means that I used too much primer. I usually use smaller than a pea size amount.

Also a good primer will minimize pores but not make your foundation look caked.

    ETA: clarity

@OGSarah I wear the maybelline vivid matte liquid. I first got it for my wedding and I'm addicted.

@AlmostBach - thanks! I don't feel like I'm using a lot, but I'll try using less! I'm also not in love with my current foundation, but that's a whole separate issue.

Use a moisturizing balm or Chapstick about 20 min before applying the matte lipstick this will hydrate your lips and provide a barrier between your lips & the matte lipstick prolonging the dryness. You just want to make sure you give the balm at least 20 min to soak in or else it will make your lipstick smudgy.

Re. YouTube personalities... I love Vintage or Tacky. Some of her stuff is way too out there for mere mortals to replicate, but it's really interesting to see what she uses and how she uses it. She's also almost albino pale like me so it's great to see what colors work on her.

I've bitched about my non-existent eyebrows before so I have to say I finally found a product I like - the Benefit Goof Proof pencil. It's the one that's a really strange shape. It goes on really light which is key because my eyebrows are so pale that even the lightest shades of eyebrow pencils look fake. It's definitely worth a try!

@Sass- try Wayne Goss- he does a whole Kim K tutorial on high light and contour.

    Also- Pixiewoo

"how to contour for your face shape"

"Makeup contouring for all face shapes- real techniques"

really Sam and Nikki are brilliant. Very likable and approachable- I prefer sam to nikki- but they are both very talented.

Jacklyn Hill has several- but she's like GO BIG OR GO HOME- some of her older tutorials are more appropriate for new folks trying to learn- the newer ones might have you running like WTF DID I DO TO MY FACE!!! LOL- it takes a little adjusting to get used to seeing your face with heavy make up.

Again- practice when you have no where to go- the amount of stress that is created by trying to do a new thing under a time line is much higher than most people realize. I can do a full gig face in under 20 minutes at this point. But I've BEEN doing it- for years. I don't like to- but I CAN. Because I've been practicing- my hands no where to go and no fresh new techniques- just wam bam- getter done.

@Elizabeth, only if the brushes are synthetic. If they are made of natural fibers, it will dry the fibers out ruining the brush.

    Fiona- I LOVE reds.

My favorite? herm- let me pull out my bag _ I went on a red bender about 5 months ago- and all I bought for months were reds.

Ruby Woo with VINO as a lip liner or night mouth- fucking brilliant.

You can always use a wine liner to richen up a brighter red.

But let me see. hold on.

Jeffree Star -Unicorn Blood- liquid to matte- doesn't dry down fully- so great for day to day- but it isn't 100% transfer proof.

Color Pop- JuJuRuge and Trust me- trust me is MUCH brighter- but still a good red.

Color Pop- Prim- it's a satin- doesn't dry down- not transfer proof- still long wearing- much more berry- love this color.

    DNA Cosmetics- REVENGE!

Two Face- Melted Velvet- Love this- not insanely long wearing- but a great product.

I have some NYX ones I really like- Chaos I think is my favorite- Snow White wasn't as awesome as everyone said IMHO. I love it in the tube but I always put it on and I"m like. meh.

And the Maybelline wine ones are really great too- god- I can't remember the new matte ones are great- I don't remember the name of them. fail.
