Matching an ivory gown

July162016, on July 7, 2016 at 12:56 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

Hi everyone,

I need your help! I have an ivory gown and my fiance ordered a black tux. He originally wanted a white shirt but it is too different from my gown and the ivory shirt matches perfectly. He is getting an ivory vest and bow tie. Is that too matchy? What are other ivory dress brides fiances doing with a black tux? Thank you for your help!

It doesn't sound too matchy. Sounds like a good choice.

My dress is ivory, and FH has a black tux, black bow tie, black vest, and ivory shirt.

I had an ivory gown and my husband wore a black tux and white shirt. Never noticed a difference. He didn't wear an vest though. He wore a black neck tie. Here's us...you can't tell the difference between ivory and white.

I wore ivory and my H wore a navy and black tux with a white shirt. We both loved the look of a nice crisp white shirt with his tux, so we didn't want to to compromise that by having him in an ivory shirt. I didn't even notice it the day of. Here's a pic of what it looked like

Nope! It is definitely not too matchy. My photographer said that if you have an ivory gown and he has a white shirt, your dress could look yellow without it meaning to be.

Black and ivory definitely go together and it will help keep everything matching as well! Your FH's groomsmen should be suggested getting an ivory shirt as well. Smiley smile

Husband wore a gray tux with ivory shirt vest and tie. It actually looked really good, and matched my ivory dress.

I was told that ivory shirts, even next to ivory gowns can end up looking very yellow. I am wearing a champagne/blush dress with ivory overlay so it looks a little golden, and FH is wearing a white shirt.

That's actually the combination that was recommended to us when we picked out FH's tux. He'll be in a black tux with an ivory shirt, vest, tie, and pocket square. The GM's will be in an ivory shirt and their vest, et al will match the BM's dresses. Definitely not too matchy; you want everyone to know who the groom is (from across the room) when he takes off the jacket.

We are actually just sticking with the original order because we would then have to change the flower on his jacket as well! So he will be in a black tux, white shirt, ivory vest, ivory bow tie. Do you think it will look good with my ivory gown? I'm very nervous!! But our wedding is next Saturday so this is so last minute!

Check on what shade of ivory the shirt and accessories are. I was in a wedding where the groom went this way bc his bride had an "ivory" dress. Well, her dress was a very light ivory, seemed just off white in photos, whereas his "ivory" shirt and accessories were a yellowish cream and looked kinda dingy. They were from Men's Wearhouse, if that helps!

We've seen the ivory shirts at Mens Warehouse and they were dirty looking next to my dress, which is ivory. So be aware.

I definitely do not recommend pairing a white shirt and ivory best/tie. You WILL end up with the best and tie looking dingy and dirty when you put them right up against stark white like that.

You could do a black shirt and then the ivory would pop against it more
