Lame excuses for not RSVPing

Shannon S., on January 17, 2011 at 10:04 AM Posted in Planning 0 15

What's the lamest excuse anyone has given you for not RSVPing? I got a doozy last night: "You KNOW I'm coming, because there's an open bar!" Er, no. You still have to RSVP because plans can change, etc. Also, it's a wedding, not a kegger.

What's your favorite lame excuse?

    Well, what do you expect from the same people who won't give you their addresses? Peter on the third barstool on the left goes where the beer flows, right? Smiley winking

    I'm not at this point yet either, but one could be: "I misplaced the stamped envelope/rsvp card"..which I mean this is possible, I myself can be quite disorganized, but then again it would be like they didn't care enough to put it somewhere safe.

    @Ab - we are having people RSVP by email and phone. No little card to lose! Though maybe they could have misplaced the entire Internet. Maybe?

    @Turtle - ha! No kidding.

    Mine is a little different. A family of 4 told me it's 99% sure they are coming. I received no RSVP, so had a mutual friend "casually" enquire twice, yes, it's 99 percent sure they are coming. Four days before the wedding, the 99% sure turned into an emailed no. The kids were in school and husband had to work (both foreseeable events, as the husband is in the same field as my DS). The "no" arrived after the 4 meals had been paid for and the personalized place cards had been paid for and printed.

    Grrrrrr... I'm dreading this @ Fun bride T. In today's economy, paying for four no-shows is not easy.

    I got "I didn't know I was supposed to return the paper". Then why the hell you think I placed a stamp on the envelope. "Really, there's a stamp? I didn't even see it".

    I'm worried that some of these ppl we have to call one too many times, are the people who will not show.

    I also got, "just put me down as a yes, I am not sure yet" Again, if you didn't RSVP, and you are not sure, why should I put you down as a yes?

    Today is my last RSVP date so I'm sure the excuses are going to start rolling in when we contact the 48 that did not rsvp. :/

    See, this is why if people don't purchase their plane tickets or reserve the hotel room by September 1st (and don't RSVP either by mail or phone), they won't be included in my guests count. I sure as hell am not paying for any "maybes"

    @Fins - 48? That's half my guest list! I'd be ripping my hair out.

    I plan on sending around an email a few days before the deadline to say, "RSVP deadline is Saturday, if we don't hear from you by then we will assume you are not coming and will mark you down as regrets. So sorry you'll miss it!" Harsh? Maybe. But I've got to have numbers!

    Not really have a favorite lame excuse but I've noticed that some cultures dont like RSVPing because it just sounds "ridiculous" and "lame" before their eyes. I have no opinion about it because every person got her own touch. I mean, come on, it's your wedding and you can do it as you please Smiley smile hehe.

    Smiley tongue sorry, stupid internet hehehe.. but yes, as i was saying, some people find it rude Smiley laugh . At first I did as well, but then with time I became more open-minded and realized it is a need, not a luxury.

    My favorite was "C'mon Kellee, we're Mexican! Mexican's don't RSVP!" Ugh! Like our nationality has anything to do with common curtesy!
