KWR: Nightmares/night terrors

Nightmares: scary dreams that tend to wake you up at night and you remember the details

Night terrors: scary dreams that don't tend to wake up, you scream/move/kick while asleep, and you do not remember the details

Yeah, so, apparently I'm having night terrors, and I have them on a very sporadic basis. I scream/shake/kick, etc. and then even wake up in odd, defensive type positions. I have no flippin' idea what any of them are about. Usually, FH just snuggles up to me and says, "you're okay, you're okay.." until I wake up. I then wake up, say "I'm sorry," and go back to sleep. I had one last night apparently since I remember him saying all of that and then my replying to him before going back to sleep.

What the hell? Consciously, I don't feel stressed. I guess somewhere in subconscious, I do. It's really annoying and makes me feel like a looney bird in a horror movie. I had nightmares as a kid, but now it's night terrors. WTF.

Any thoughts?

I have always had very, very vivid dreams, and nightmare for that matter. FH says I get what you describe as night terrors sometimes, where I don't remember them. But a lot of times I do remember, and I wake up scared poopless, heart racing, unable to go back to sleep.

Most of the times my dreams are just weird and extremely vivid, but lately I've been having more nightmares than usual. Could be wedding related stress, but I never connected that before.

I had them as a kid and as an adult once in awhile. I'm most likely to have them when my allergies are bothering me or I've had a bit too much sugar or yeast.

I was going to say I get them when I eat certian foods. Usually onions but not if they are raw or cooked all the way through it's when they are just barely cooked it happens. This week I had a horrible one and couldn't go back to sleep it was very vivid and scary.

I thought about food being the reason. I know sometimes I have weird (not scary) dreams if I eat too late or eat something that I'm not used to eating. Any other thoughts? (bump)

I have something I take lots of meds for that cause really vivid nightmares. I sometimes wake up crying or screaming or whatever, and the fiance just cuddles (like you say yours does). I ended up taking more sedatives to help me sleep, which work for the most part. Sorry that you're having such a rough time!

Ive had night terrors since I was a kid and the only reason I know I still have them, is conversations the next day. "You know, you sat up and your were staring at me last night. I tried talking to you but you didnt answer me. That was some freaky shit." I'm never aware of when my night terrors take place.

I have nightmares usually once or twice a week but I don't think the two are related and I'm usually very aware of those.

Once I figure out the reason why, I'll be sure to let you know :p

I had a dream the other night that H was trying to kill me. It was the most awful thing. I think I've been watching too many Lifetime movies.

My 8 year old has night terrors. They are so scary to watch!! He will sit straight up in bed screaming like a banshee for 5-10 minutes then lay down and go right back to sleep. We have to keep a food journal to see if anything triggers them.

FH gets them now and again. Stress is a large factor for him.

I suffer from both. Then I wake up with this awful hollow feeling in my stomach for days afterwards. I tend to blame it on stress.

I get both. The former is usually about my ex.
