IDK what to do about my engagement ring....

I was engaged before and went through the same thing with my first ring. I took mine to a different jeweler and he added a small metal ball as a filler (goes on the inside of the ring, on the opposite side of the diamonds) that kept the ring from twirling any longer.

The problem with rings with side stones, is sizing it up or down changes the integrity of the stones staying in. A friend of mine has a ring that was sized, and when you bend the ring it changes the prongs. She has had ongoing issues with her ring, and has only had it a couple of years. I'd say have the store re-order it in the size 4.5 and stick with that. You don't want a ring that doesn't fit, and you definitely don't want to deal with a lifetime of stones falling out.

Don't forget, it's also not going to sit at the thinnest part of your finger either, after you get your wedding band. Mine is slightly too big but will be perfect when I have a wedding band on.

I had a ring guard on for the first 7 or 8 months of being engaged. It doesn't seem like a permanent solution, but it would work. Also, I would get a second opinion about sizing it. As long as they check the side stones afterwards, I think it would be okay. One of my little side diamonds was loose after sizing, I took it back and they checked it. But, I got it sized to a 5...so not sure.

I had the EXACT same problem, my stones go pretty far down the sides too. I had a new one made to a 4.5 and it was still spinning around on my finger so I brought it back in and they did a 4.25. Needless to say its still not tight, but it does fit better with my band on. And I probably wont stay at a 120 lbs my whole life, so I have a little room to get chubby hands =)

Also I know how you feel about wanting the ring he proposed with, but I would rather be happy and have it fit right and not have problems with your diamonds falling out, and order a new one!

My finger size can go down or up (a little) depending on the season - in winter, my fingers are smaller, in summer (humidity), my fingers are a bit bigger.

In addition, my ring is vintage, so sizing it could have compromised the integrity of the ring due to the metal/design, so I just had them add a ring guard. A lot cheaper and I can just bend a little either way if my finger is a bit smaller/bigger.

I still have "wiggle" room if I go to a 4.5 so that makes me feel better and @Nichole, I keep saying the same thing... I won't be this size forever but I work with a woman who says she has been married and has 6 kids and she is still wearing her original ring in the original size .... eek IDK what to do b/c it drives me crazy that the ring is always facing down I can't even enjoy the ring b/c I can't see it LOL!

You could probably have a butterfly spring put in, or sizing bumps. These won't change the band size, but will add more volume to the inside part of the ring, making it a better fit.

re: having replacing the setting-- don't feel guilty if you decide to do this. I have had mine replaced twice because of sizing issues (and BN just resets the stone, rather than changing the band size), and it looks exactly the same as it did-- I can't even notice that it isn't the same ring, except that now it fits.

Having the right fit is very important-- it would really suck if your ring were to come off and you were to lose it forever.

And forget the plastic sizers-- they are sooo uncomfortable. I couldn't even appreciate how uncomfortable they were until I finally got my ring to fit, and don't even realize I'm wearing a ring.

I would talk to a different jeweler that does in house repairs and custom pieces. They may be able to do something to make the original ring fit.

Otherwise, I wouldn't feel guilty about not having the same ring he proposed with. Better to have a different ring altogether than risk losing the ring you currently have!

I have the beads that @Tatiana is talking about. My jeweler called them Cartier beads. I took the ring to him after our engagement and he added them in less than an hour. If you decide to keep your original ring I would check into them. They've worked well for me and keep my ring from spinning around on my finger.
