How much research did you do before dress shopping?

For the first appointment I went with the flow. I tried ok every single type of dress. I'm am typically a super heavy researcher but I was glad I went in as a blank slate. I had my list of criteria based on my venue and my overall vibe but nothing specific about the dress though.

I work in a bridal salon. Go to Pinterest if you have not already and save some pics to your phone and then email them to the salon. It will help them pre select for you based on shape and not necessarily by designer.

I did a little research and loved lace dresses, though I didn't really have a style in mind. I ended up falling in love with a satin dress that looked nothing like what I was picturing. I tried on every style, fabric and color just to see what I liked and in the end I'm glad I didn't have my heart set on a particular style or fabric.

Try on everything, you just never know which one will do it for you .

Dresses online look so different when you try them on. It's good to have a general idea but remain open minded and willing to try anything. I thought I wanted something long sleeved and form fitting and fell in love with a ballgown with cap sleeves. You never know what you'll like and what looks good on you unless you try!

For my first appointment I made sure they had a dress that I specifically wanted to try on, the next two had a specific brand I wanted to try! At the third appointment though we told the lady what I liked and described what I had in mind and she brought out a new dress they got which happened to be a different brand but it was perfect! So I'd suggest describing to your sales people what you are thinking but try to keep an open mind with things that are different from what you expected

I knew what designer I wanted, and a general idea of what I was looking for.

I did try on every silhouette, but ended up with what I thought I would.

I had done pinterest browsing but not much more than that. I knew I needed a modest dress so I knew certain things were out of the question. Other than that, I had to designer preference and was open to many styles. It all worked out because on my first trip, I bought the first dress I tried on. That was over a year ago and I still love it!

I did research and really wanted illusion neck lines. But then I ended up not liking at all how the illusions looked on me. I did end up with straps however.

I knew by my third store what is hated/disliked and made sure to state that at my 4th appointment. Those can be the things that help more than I like lace (I liked lace but hated certain types of lace and stated that) I ended up stating more dislikes than likes since I really did ended up not really know what shape I really wanted. I wanted a more fitted look but not like the mermaid and not exactly the fit and flare or dropped a line. I just let my consultant find a shape in what I described.

Give them lots of information, it can only help them chose better picks

I did a ton of research for pretty much every store, and ended up with a similar silhouette dress that was on clearance. I personally think that research is great as far as getting a general idea, but I don't think I would've been able to find my exact dress based off of research

Maria, I had my first appointment at David's, I put a few on my favorites.I knew I didn't want strapless, or anything that showed to much of my chest, I didn't want white as this is my second marriage. I didn't do any research, just pulled what I thought looked pretty.Even if you don't think you'll like it try it that's how I found my dress.

I had a pinterest board for wedding everything was on it.I made a separate board for pictures, reception table,ect.So much easier.Good luck

I did a little bit of research, but I knew I loved the styles and feel of the dresses provided at this small boutique in Pittsburgh. I just followed them on IG and browsed their online selection, but the dress that I chose just fell into my hands. I liked it when I saw it online, but it made such a big difference when I put it on.

Even though you may fall in love with a dress online, it might not satisfy what you're looking for. I initially had my hopes set on a specific dress and ended up hating it on me.

I just got an idea of what style I liked and went from there!
