Just Said Yes July 2016

How long did it take you to say "yes" to the dress?

Antonette, on July 20, 2015 at 12:08 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 31

Hello, beautiful brides!

I am getting married next July and have just started wedding dress shopping.

I am not going to lie - I find it pretty daunting. What I originally thought would look good on me didn't, so I have been thrown for a loop. Now I don't know what I want.

It seems that all my friends have found a dress right away - basically they only did one day of shopping! I can't commit to anything that I like. I feel like there is something wrong with me!

I have gone to three stores - Kleinfeld, L'Fay NYC, and Nordstrom Wedding Suite. I am afraid that consultants just want to make a buck off of me, and that I am going to regret my decision. One of the consultants told me that "50% of brides buy the first dress they try on." NOT ME!

So...how long did it take for you to find your dress? Were you at all hesitant to say yes?

Thank you to all the wonderful brides on this forum!

I tried on 15-20 dresses within a two day period. On the second day the second dress I put on is the one I said yes too.

First off, don't let any consultant sway you. It is important for you to like how you look and feel in a dress before committing to one. If you don't like it, skip to the next dress.

I too didn't end up with what I originally thought I wanted, my best friend was the same way. I found my dress in the first day, but went to two stores. I found one that I "THOUGHT" I was in love with at the first store, but I wasn't sold on it. I'm glad I didn't buy that one, because I look amazing in my dress. The second store, I tried on maybe 4 or 5 dresses before I came out in the one. I felt beautiful and it totally wasn't what I was looking for, but I just felt so good in it. I didn't try on another dress. I wanted to stay in that dress and didn't want to put anything else on.

I decided on my dress the first time I went dress shopping. I tried on about 6 dresses. The "one" was the second one I tried on. I just had a different feeling in it. However, the day after I started second guessing myself. I went back to my "Dress" board on Pinterest. Big mistake. I just started second guessing the choice I made. But, in the end, I think I did make a good choice. I love the dress. But there will always be others that I see that I like. But take your time in deciding. And don't feel rushed. I'm sure you will know it when you have found your dress.

I went to about 6 stores and bought the very last dress I tried on. Don't give up hope...your dress is out there somewhere.

I went to 3 stores and probably tried on between 5-10 dresses at each store. i got my dress at the last store we went to and it was probably the 3rd dress there that i tried on. i just knew it was right, no tears or anything but it just felt right. i have also not looked at my wedding dress pinterest board since buying my dress. i haven't had any dress regret. there was only one consultant that i felt was really trying to push a dress on me. the other two were good and didn't push their opinions too much.

I shopped two separate days, once with my MOH and once with my MOH and mom. The first day things were ok, but not great. The second day, there were two I really liked, but one that my me feel like my husband's bride. I ended up picking a lace dress with a vintagey feel, which then set the who tone for all my decor. The other dress made me feel great, but would've been more appropriate for a ballroom wedding than a park wedding. Be sure to keep your whole wedding feel in mind when you're picking your dress!

I fell in love with a dress I saw online, I hunted it down & I fell in love with it as soon as I tried it on. Didn't need to try on any other dresses.

Btw I'm in NY also. Try RK Bridal (if you can, go during the week so that it's less busy). They have a really nice selection.

I made 3 appointments in 1 weekend. My sister (MOH) was home from NYC and I really wanted to take advantage of her time home. We did 2 appointments on Saturday where I found a lot of beautiful dresses but nothing was really making me feel like I was having my moment. I thought maybe I wouldn't have a moment like that, because I am so logical. I'm glad I didn't settle!! At the 3rd appointment on Sunday, I was feeling a little disheartened after we had just finished 1 round of dresses and went back out to pull more. So at that appointment, I tried on maybe 6-7 dresses total at that store (more than a dozen total with the other appointments) before I put on "mine"! I didn't try on any more dresses after that. I really liked it but I wasn't sold until I put on the veil and then I really felt like it was "the one"! I would definitely recommend a small boutique, which is where I made all my appointments. Also, definitely be open to trying on different fabrics and silhouettes. For example, I thought I wanted satin but it was so heavy-looking on me -- I ended up buying a taffeta dress, which has a similar look but is a much lighter fabric! Also, definitely try dresses you like on with a veil to help you really envision yourself as a bride.

My first dress, it's a long story but basically I was scammed and the store has now closed down...so I already fell in love with a dress.

So, second time round....it was the 3rd dress I tried on and I already knew it was the one, at the time I had my dress already and went to this fancy store for fun! But funny how life works, cuz deep down this dress is so much better than my other one!

Go with your gut, idk...I definitely had that moment. I feel like an actress going to the oscars in this dress!

I made one shopping trip to one store. My mother was the only person I took with me. I tried on about 6 dresses before I found THE dress. As soon as I put it on, my mother gasped and when I saw myself in the mirror, I felt totally like a bride. There was no need to try on any more dresses after that. I knew it was the one.

I went to 1 store impulsively because they were going out of business and everything was at least half off, but the selection was pretty picked over. I only tried on a couple there and they weren't at all what I wanted. So I barely count that.

The next weekend, David's Bridal had their big spring sale so I went and tried on about 6 dresses, and bought the last one I tried on.

I find it very hard to believe that half of brides buy the first one they try on!

Date twin!! I've been to two stores and have tried on about ten dresses combined. I found one at the second store that I REALLY like, but I am still holding out on saying yes until I visit a few other stores. At the first store, I was able to narrow down the fit that I like and like you, it wasn't what I thought I would like but were very flattering. Good luck!!

I went to 3 stores on 3 different days. Probably tried 30 dresses on. It was one of the last dresses I tried on.

I tried on 11 dresses total, in 3 different appointments spread out over a couple of months. 5 dresses each for the first 2 appointments, and third appointment I tried on 1 dress and it was "the one." I started looking in April and bought the dress in June. I found dresses I liked in each of the first two appointments, but couldn't decide between those two, so I went back and found a third dress that had elements of the other two.

I went to two stores. The first store had a poor selection, but the second store I tried on 5 dresses and choose the first one I put on. Which was really just because that is the one the consultant put me in first, I really think as I was going around pinning things, it was probably the third or last one I found. Your wedding dress is a big deal, so take all the time you need your perfect dress will appear and you will know it as soon as you put it on.

I went to one store. The first time just to "try on" dresses and ended up falling in love with the 2nd or 3rd dress she put me in. I thought about it for a week or two and went back to the same boutique and bought it! I didnt want to take forever to pick on out so I figured I loved it the first time I'll get it. Sure enough I show ppl pictures of the dress and I still love it!
