How did you know your dress was the one??

I knew it was my dress when I could picture myself wearing it at our venue. I tried on others that I really liked but I just knew that my dress was the one when I had it on. It sounds cheesy and cliché but I literally just knew as soon as I saw myself in it in the mirror. With that said, I am making a couple changes to it. It has a really long train that I am completely taking off and I am making the skirt fit closer to my body (taking away some of the layers underneath to change the shape of it a little bit). I'm also having a sparkly belt sewn into the waist.

I knew when I actually felt like a bride and when I looked at myself in the mirror I actually took my own breath away!

Hello, I think when you find your dress you will know its the one. I went to three bridal shops. I found my dress at the first shop but wanted to keep looking, I knew that was the dress BC the next two shops i kept comparing that dress to all the dresses i was trying on. I did end up changing some things on my dress when they did on my second fitting.

I love my dress. It just felt right to me, I did have a couple moments of doubt after we had to change to an evening wedding but the more and more I looked at it and started mentally dressing it up, the more it felt perfect. I think some people have the bridal moment of tears and emotion and some of us have the "oh it's you" type of moment. It's just like when we get engaged, we all reacted differently and that's ok. Keep an open mind and an open eye when trying on dresses and most importantly listen to yourself, you are the one wearing this dress and ultimately it's your decision. Holding out forever certainly isn't the answer, but I'd tend to think that if that merging of the two dresses seems like exactly what you want, then that's what you should be looking for. I tried on 15+ dresses, and the one I ended up choosing was one that needed nothing other than typical alterations, and was something I was just really happy to be wearing. The style name also happens to be my dog's name, so that was a fun coincidence. My dress took 2 months to come in, and my first fitting appointment is about 12 weeks before the wedding, so I think you still have time, especially if you find something off the rack or something that doesn't need major alterations. Right I am not purposely trying to hold out til later, I am just picky I know that haha. If anything they made me worried cuz they said 6 months is cutting it close to order a dress in it's original form. I have a hard time thinking it truly takes that long, but even more reason why I am going to another shop this week that is an outlet shop. If I find something I truly love here in the sates, I will get it rather than waiting for Italy. Where did you get your dress, something like a david's or a private shop? See 2 months is FAST! I won't need to do a fitting if I decided to order something here really, because my mom will do any alterations necessary, so I would just pick up the dress.

Haha fair enough. That's nice that your mom can do alterations! I went to a private shop for my dress - if I remember correctly, 4 months was the max it took them to get dresses in unless you were getting something custom made.

I didn't hate it. I think it is really really weird when people talk about dresses with some sort of emotional connection. Like, it's fabric, there is nothing emotional about fabric. To me, it was if it looked good, and was comfortable. I found one that fit the bill and was at the right price so I got it.

Haha good thinking. I discovered I thought I wanted spaghetti straps but they looked too summery for a fall wedding. So now I am on to thicker tank top straps. How long did your dress take to come in?

I got mine at David's and they said 12-16 weeks. It ended up taking 3 weeks.

I just ordered mine on Saturday, I went just looking. My mom seemed surprised but I knew that I found the right one when I was like I don't want to look; this is my dress and I want to marry my best friend in this. So I just went with my gut

I never had that “ah ha!” moment or cried. I only tried on about 6 other dresses and I tried on MY dress like 3 times.

I was stuck between three. The 3rd choice was a thick heavy halter top a line that looked like a typical flower girl dress so very sweet and simple styling WITH POCKETS, the second choice was an a line sweetheart with lace that was very princessy and gorgeous and 1st choice (the one I got) is an a line 3 finger strap with a low V neck, v back, lace on the top but simple elegant bottom. Basically the 3rd choice was too "young" and simple (I wanted lace) even though I LOVE the pockets, I figured I wouldn't use them anyways. The 2nd option needed more alterations that would cost more and strapless dresses are EVERYWHERE, I wanted a little less typical and more my style/personality. Princessy would work but it would be a bit much for my personality and the wedding in general. The 1st option was perfect because it was sweet, simple, classy and sassy, alittle erotic and I wanted an open back, thick enough sleeve for both our styles (FH doesn't like speghetti strap), not itchy under the armpit, not too heavy, beautiful when I spin, can sit and be comfortable plus only need the sleeves to be shortened for alterations so super inexpensive, etc! It was the most expensive but we got it doesn to budget

I didn’t cry but I smiled big when I found The One. I customized the bodysuit but the designer only did 1 of 4 changes so the shop’s seamstress did the rest. Now I’ve learned try not to customize the dress, wait for the seamstress because it often gets lost in translation (requests go through a lot of departments).

My reception dress I had the seamstress turn the strapless dress into tea length and make sleeves out of the cut fabric. It turned out adorable!

When I first tried on my dress, I didn't know it was "the one." I was actually torn between that one and 3 others lol. I knew it was "the one" when, a week after my bridal shop appointment, I realized that every time I was thinking about my wedding and picturing my wedding, I was actually picturing myself in that dress. So it had basically inadvertently become part of my vision for the day, hahaha.

Maybe try picturing yourself on your wedding day, picture yourself walking down the aisle, doing your first dance, greeting friends and family..... what dress are you wearing when you visualize this?

I knew it was my dress when I could envision myself walking down the aisle to my fh. I felt beautiful in it as well.

I knew I wouldn't be the one to cry over a dress, nor would my mom. I am also not a fashion-y person (jeans and a sweatshirt are about as far as my fashion sense goes) but after I put my dress on, I just kept comparing everything else to it. I couldn't stop thinking about it even though "love" probably is the word I would have used to describe it. Luckily I didn't have to make any changes to it so that helped and there were a couple of other dresses that I liked but wanted to change things. If I hadn't found the dress I did, I probably would have gone back to one of the "perfect but..." dresses and made some changes... although I don't think the changes I would have made would have resembled what my actual dress looks like.

I've looked a few dresses and a couple were really nice but it didn't really impress me. I couldn't envision myself in it for MY day. I started looking online as well and I found the most amazing, unique dress and I saved it. I kept looking but no matter what I saw or what I tried on, I found myself comparing every other dress to the one I had saved. I had found it on multiple pinterest sites and really untrustworthy websites and had no idea who the true designer is. I finally gave up and turned to a company that customizes dresses. With a few minor changes to the dress, I decided to get it customized and I couldn't be more excited. I was quoted 4 to 5 months to make so probably 6 months tops before actually getting it.
