Honeymoon ideas needed! Where are you going? What are you doing?

What kinda people are you? Ha. We aren't beach people either. We were planning on Disneyland but we don't have the budget for that anymore. Where are you located? How far are you willing to travel?

We're doing a mini-moon since FH probably won't have much time off left by that time, plus it'll save us some money. We haven't completely decided yet, but we're looking at places in New England or a little south like Virginia or Maryland. FH's parents just went to Niagara Falls for their anniversary and I had suggested that to FH so we were already thinking of that and I mentioned it to FMIL. She said his dad had just mentioned that if we wanted to go to Niagara Falls for our honeymoon he'd pay for us to stay at the hotel they had stayed at. That could save us a good amount of money, so we might do that!

LOL we are pretty much down for anything. Not big into hiking or kayaking. Our favorite things are sightseeing, museums, and anything with a view =) We are in Iowa and willing to travel around the United States. If we can afford international travel we are up for that as well.

We're also only taking eight days, so we narrowed it down to places where the flights wouldn't be too long or expensive and where we wouldn't have to adjust much to a time change. We settled on Nicaragua, because it's cheap but also one of the safest Latin American countries now. We're staying here:

http://tribal-hotel.com/the-hotel/ —few nights at each place. It's so cheap compared to what you would pay in Hawaii or Costa Rica, but the beaches and views are just as beautiful! Lots to do—hiking the volcano, horseback riding, visiting nearby towns, etc.

FH and I are going to NYC because that's where we met and we also are only taking a week right after the wedding

Every time I see your thumbnail pic, I think it's a Mayan pyramid. So you should go to Chichen Itza.

We flew out of Des Moines to Cancun. We booked through United Vacations, which was nice because we could put down $200 (per person) and then make payments however we wanted up until like a month before. We stayed at Live Aqua which I STRONGLY suggest. A lot of people we met off the resort were jealous we were staying there. We can't wait to go back!

Anyway, it was about $3600 like the first week in September. That was our round trip flight, transportation to and from the airport, and 8 nights at the all inclusive in a basic garden room. We ended up upgrading the last couple nights to a suite because his parents gifted us some extra money the night before we left.

ETA- Just saw the beach part. The pool is really nice... Lol

You said you aren't beach people, I was going to say Mexico. Good and affordable and direct flight from MSP.

I would suggest washington DC and/or NYC! You could do half in DC and take a bus and do the other half in NYC. You'd be going in an off season too! I would suggest either going right away or after Nov 4th though since next year is a presidential election. You probably don't want to be in DC 2 weeks before that

I have been to both 3 times. You can do typical tourist stuff, Smithsonian/Monuments. Or go out to the fancy special restaurants lobbyists and politicians dine at. In DC I would HIGHLY recommend the Newseum. I hate museums and LOVED this. Smithsonian is always good too.

In NYC you can also do empire state building, times square, and there are SO MANY good restaurants and bars. You can visit one of the boroughs, Chinatown, Greenwich Village. Catch a football game at the new Met Life Stadium if you are sports fans.

What about Ireland? I've heard that is relatively affordable and an easy flight, but it's somewhere different and out of the country slash romantic.

Jacqui - if you are looking in Virginia, go somewhere in the Blue Ridge Mountains! Look into the Charlottesville/Crozet/Afton, VA area. There are bunch of wineries and breweries and resorts, and the scenery is BEAUTIFUL.

I was going to suggest an Alaskan cruise but I think at that time of year, the boats won't be running up that way any more. Do you want to go somewhere warm (but still non-beach) or cold? I think a cabin or nice hotel in CO could be nice. San Francisco is also really awesome with lots to do!

Me and FH are not huge beach people either BUT we still decided to go to Jamaica because there are so many other things to do. Especially included in the resort we are going to. Snorkeling, catamaran cruise, waterfall tour, golfing, spa. They also have other things you can do not through the resort like zip lining, water rafting, etc. They also have entertainment and a bunch of restaurants.

New England is beautiful in the fall! Boston has tons of history and lots to see, and you can go apple picking or to a winery outside of the city. I am a huge fan of the NH Lakes district, especially around Lake Winnepesauke (about 2 hours from Boston). Gorgeous views worth hiking for even if you don't love hiking (and gorgeous views from the lakeshore too!) Portsmouth, NH is also a really cute little city an hour from our house on Lake Winnepesauke, and I can recommend many NH breweries and a meadery if you are into that kind of thing.

I would suggest looking into California. You could explore museums and tourist attractions in LA, go to Disneyland, and wine tasting in Malibu. Lots of fun things to do in one area!

I have also heard that New England is lovely in the Fall. Boston, Salem, Portland, and Portsmouth, New Hampshire are all great ideas to spend some time.

Danielle, I know I'm late and you probably won't even see this, but thanks, I'll definitely look into that area of Virginia!

We are going to Asheville, NC for ours! FH and I are not really beach people either, and we've both traveled extensively to DC and NYC so we didn't really want to do that since it didn't seem special enough. We really love museums, arts, food, history, etc., and Asheville has all of that! We're doing ours around $3k, we're shopping around for flights and have found roundtrip ones for $250-350. There are also a ton of charming B&Bs there, which adds some character to your stay rather than just staying in a hotel.

The fiance and I are thinking of going back to Germany for our honeymoon. Not sure if I'll come back to the states again but Germany is perfect any time of year :-)

Paris!!! FH and I went in March and absolutely fell in love. The flights were super inexpensive, we did airb&b and got a flat less than 5 minutes from the Eiffel Tour for 100/night. Theres soooo much to do and see and you can even take cheap day trips out to other parts of France.

We've started looking at Iceland!

It's cheap to get there from the eastern side of this continent.

Are you wine people? Southern California has a lot of wineries and you could even do a hot air balloon ride, hiking, shopping, relaxing etc. My FH and I went to Hollywood over the summer and to Disney Land. It was really nice! Disney World is also a great option! Epcot has more than enough for adults to do - as well as all the other parks too - one of my soon to be sister in laws did that for their HM and they had massages, ate great food and loved every minute of it! If you go to Disney World, you could also go to Universal Studios, which is also fun! Finally, what about the mountains? Pocono Mountains are great and very inexpensive! Depending on where you live, you may not even have to fly.
