I feel you! It's so hard. I'm just on endless repeat with my FH and Mom "you can make substitutions to your list, but no additions"

I'm afraid to ask my mom if we've forgotten anyone! For sure she will add people too that we HAVE to invite. I know some people will decline (especially since we are not inviting kids) I just do NOT want to invite more than we can pay for! I'd be all about a b-list if it wasn't totally rude! We were aiming for 150 and are at 194!

Yea. I know what happened to my guest list. My mom is paying for our wedding, so I would run additions by her before I added people. Honestly, I think it comes down to I'm not good at saying "no" (and neither is my mom); as she puts it, we can afford it, so it's not a huge deal. We didn't have any issues until my gramma invited 40 people verbally and then handed my mom the list in April. My list went from 55 to 95, and after that, I just gave up and it snowballed. We added coworkers. We added neighbors. We added new friends and old friends. We let people add plus ones. For a while there, it felt like we were handing out invites like handing out candy on Halloween.

So my advice is become very good at saying "no" firmly but politely when people try to add. If you WANT a small wedding, it's so important to be able to say "no".
