Father Daughter Song Instead of Dance

caseymercer7@gmail.com, on January 31, 2013 at 4:02 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

My dad is a wonderful guitar player. He was in a band in his younger years and now is the leader of our praise and worship team at church in which I sing in. When I was in 7th grade, he was diagnosed with a disease called CIPD (Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyradiculoneuropathy). He's doing well and his prognosis is good but the disease has left him with fairly limited mobilty. He is able to walk but standing for long periods of time and stairs tend to be his downfall. I had no idea what we were going to do in leu of a Father Daughter dance but he recently suggested that he play the Guitar and I sing instead of dancing. Do you think it could work? I've never heard of anyone doing anything like this before and would love to hear your suggestions!

One of the girls I work with did this exact thing, it was beautiful. They sang/played a mash up of "Brown Eyed Girl" and "Sweet Child of Mine."

And one of my friends also did it, sort of. Her dad has ALS so she sang a song to him instead of dancing. Also beautiful!

OMG! Such a beautiful idea! I'm struggling over the father daughter dance because my father died a fews years ago so I'm trying to find something creative but not sad to fill that tradition. I think your guests will LOVE this and talk about it for a long time afterwards! Good luck!

Thank you ladies! @Brandy Do you have a video of your father and you dancing when you were younger? Maybe you could put together a slideshow of happy times you shared together and play it during that time?

I think that is absolutely beautiful and if you tape that you will have it your whole life, muchmore special than a dance and I hope my husband one day does that with his daughter the thought brings tears to my eyes as it will to your guests.

That is such a great idea!! now I want my dad to learn guitar so we can do that! although I cant sing. I think the slideshow/video is a good idea too!! That is definitely something people will remember more than a dance.
