FH went to Tuxedo Junction a few weeks ago to get his tuxedo figured out and his GM's tuxedos. While he was there, he picked out what his dad and my dad will wear as well. I guess the guy told him that he is supposed to do that. I was just wondering if that is how it works? Does the groom choose what the dads wear and they just go get measured? I just never knew how this was supposed to work, and I don't want to offend my dad by telling him that my FH picked out his tux, go get measured, if that's not how it typically works. Thanks!

I went with my FH to Mens Warehouse--and we picked out what everyone, even our Dads are going to wear. I think I may ask my dad at Christmas what he thinks of it though--you can always change it.

Typically we do i am picking out what my mother and MIL are wearing and when we go to do the mens tuxs we are picking what they are wearing because we want everyone (meaning me) to coordinate

I know when i was picking out the ushers tuxes with FH the store was trying to up sale like crazy! IMO I don't think its normal but that is what the rental place wants you to do

@Caitlin- 48 hours later I am REALLY sure thats what was going on and I want to talk to FH about the price. Also do you really need cufflinks? What about pocketsquares??

Lol ya I did go with the pocket-squares but only because i like them but i said no to the cufflink and shoes.

We chose our dads' tuxes as well, because we wanted them in the same tux as the guys in the wedding party. We chose vests for them that matched our moms' dresses (my mom & dad wore plum, and MIL & FIL wore cranberry).
We did keep the cufflinks. If your guys are wearing tuxedos with tuxedo shirts (most rental places rent tuxedo shirts with their tuxedos), the cufflinks are what fasten the cuffs. There are no buttons. (This video explains it pretty well http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_pq8_bTGSA )

We did not use the pocket squares as it saved us close to $10 per rental and all of the guys would have boutonnieres, so I thought it might look too busy with both anyway.

My dad actually requested that his tux be all black. I would've chosen that for him anyway since we didn't want everyone to match exactly. But, he had an opinion and was glad we listened to him. I don't see anything wrong w/ choosing his tux like you would all the GM...but it might not hurt to ask his opinion. Maybe just tell him what you were thinking of and ask if that sounds good to him if you're worried about offending him.

I think its up to you and the fathers-they dont have to be in tuxes. I told my dad he could either buy a tux (they had been thinking about it), rent the one the guys are wearing, or just wear a nice suit.
he opted to rent the tux so he would coordinate and look as formal as the rest of the guys. I picked out a different colored vest for him so he didnt look like a groomsman.
