Dislike my future last name

Sarah, on February 13, 2019 at 10:22 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 94
So in all fun and jokes I constantly joke with FH about taking my last name which is Adams. His last name is Gabehart and I dislike it lol. Obviously I will take it but doesn’t anything else dislike their future last name?

Im undecided if I'll take it. You're not alone.

My fiancé’s last name is Bald..lol. When we got our marriage license the lady asked if we wanted to start a new last name, he wouldn’t budge 😂😂

I’m not exactly in love with my soon-to-be last name (it’s Gunner) but I really wanna take his last name and I’m sure I’ll grow to love it because I’ll love that it means I’m married to him

Obviously? Hmm in my career, I’ve been exposed to more and more women keeping their maiden names. Roughly 20 percent of women married in recent years have kept their names, according to The NY Times (An additional 10 percent or so chose a third option, such as hyphenating their name or legally changing it while continuing to use their birth name professionally.) So, I try not to assume a woman will obviously change her name. I dislike absolutely nothing about my FH’s last name, but I earned my degrees, not him and I already had an identity before I met him.

Yes lol! When we went to our town hall to get it she legit asked if he wanted to keep Bald or start a new last name. She was serious too! He just wouldn’t budge 😒, but I will be taking his last name lol

    Mines warner

i don’t dislike it necessarily but always hated being so far down in line with “s” so I’m not excited that Warner is even further down lol

we both had generic names to begin with at Stevens and Warner

im sorry you’re not loving the name but I feel like it will “grow on you”... especially with children

Yes I’m sure it will grow on me. It could be worse. It’s super important to both of us that I take it... I just don’t love it. I am so ready to get married and then I remember my new last name and want to make a frowny face lol.

I said obviously bc it is important to both of us that I take it. I dislike the idea of having a different last name than him. I work in healthcare so I do see spouses with different last names often. It’s just not for me. I’m sure it’ll grow on me haha.
