Cake Stand Issues

agenderscotty, on October 21, 2015 at 3:23 AM Posted in Planning 0 19

Has anyone else just really struggled to find a cake stand that they like and is big enough for their cake? It's like every website I look at I just can't find any! Let me know where you got yours whether it was in store or online!

You could also DIY one, depending on what you are looking for. We needed a cupcake stand, so we made one with dollar store candlesticks and glass plates from goodwill.

Did you try asking the bakery where you are getting your wedding cake from? The bakery I am using has a few different ones for rent on a first come first serve basis and rental is free with the purchase of the wedding cake.

I have found that cake stands are super small! Luckily I'm doing cupcakes, so it's ok, but it would be a problem if I was doing cake. Does your bakery have one you can borrow?

We got ours at Hobby Lobby when their wedding stuff was 50% off.

It was big enough, plus sometimes your bakery might have a stand for you.

If you have capabilities to do this, we just cut a sliver of a log and cleaned/coated the top! Love the raw edge Smiley smile I have also seen the candle stick with plate on top look, and love that as well.

I was having a hard time too but my coworker and his wife own a wedding rentals company and he told me I could use their cake stand for free. He said no one really ever requests it. It isn't necessarily my style entirely (it has bling around the base) but hey, its free. I'll take it.

The woman who baked our cake provided the stand. Check with your bakery.

This is why WW is great because I haven't even thought of a cake stand, probably because I haven't done my cake tasting yet or designed it but do you need one? Doesn't it look beautiful on its own? I guess I'll speak to my bakery about this.

I'm having this same problem! I don't want to pay $100 for a cake stand but I can't seem to find one. Even when I looked on hobby lobby they were only 12" wide. I need 16." I have looked for rentals without any luck and my baker does not carry them.

Thanks all! I have been looking on Etsy but I don't want to spend like $100 for a cake stand. I am not using a bakery, my grandmother who is a baker is making the cake for our wedding which is why I am searching for a cake stand. My bottom cake later is going to be a 14" and I'm having trouble finding cake stands to accommodate that size.

We aren't doing a cake stand. The baker puts the cake on a silver wrapped tray that can sit on the table. I didn't see the need to either spend the money to purchase something that would just otherwise gather dust in out home or to rent something that isn't really necessary.

We don't technically need one, but FH prefers the look with it. We got ours at Hobby Lobby. It's normaly $50 or $60 (it's been awhile) but we got it during one of their 50% off wedding sales. It's a round silver one like this.

I've been considering not using one but I just really like how they look and if it's not incredibly personalized I could use it for other events. And my venue only offfers the event space, chairs and tables. Everything else is on us to purchase/provide.

Hi @Malachai Cates! Depending on your style, there are some not-so-expensive options on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/market/wedding_cake_stand

What style/look are you hoping for with the cake stand?? That will help us search! Smiley smile

Chrisitina, thank you! I need a round cake stand that's either 16" or 18" round since the bottom layer of my cake will be 14". As far as style goes, there are a lot of things I like. I like wooden slab cake stands, I like vintage cake stands, the ones that have little dangley gems are really cute as well. Our cake topper is here (https://www.etsy.com/listing/221536871/i-love-you-i-know-wedding-cake-topper?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=star%20wars%20cake%20topper&ref=sr_gallery_36) and our cake is a naked cake so I'm just struggling to find something that goes well with it because I want our cake table to look nice.
