I would have loved doughnuts but FH wants a cake. My wedding planner lives near one of my favorite doughnut shops (very far from where we live now) though so I may have both...

Lol I scrolled down to the OPs last comment without reading the rest and thought WTF how did we get to tossing cake? (In my head I pictured it like a bouquet toss). I think that's probably enough internet for the day.

No cake for us. We are having an ice cream sundae bar. My kids got to pick the toppings we will serve. It was an awesome way to help them get invested in the wedding and feel like they are a part of the celebration.

I think an ice cream bar would be amazing! FH basically said no due to cost, but one day I will have one...

I'm going to give it to you straight:

It's rude to have a small cake for photos or whatever and then not serve your guests cake. If you forego the cake, you need to forego the photos of cake too.

We didn't do a traditional cake. We are huge coffee and espresso people and having an awesome crumb/coffee cake that would pair well with coffee/espresso drinks was ideal. We adored our cake and so many of our guests loved it that they took extra cake home.

No one eats the cake and the cake on the face pictures are so cheesy. It won't be missed. Maybe have a dessert table with a variety to choose from.

We are having a small 2 tier cake and a bunch of mini desserts. I'm so excited about them!

We're doing a small-ish cake and then assorted pies and other desserts. The cake will be on a stand of some kind so it will still be the focal point. But I want to incorporate some of the desserts that our families love and are kind of traditional/memorable to us. Plus I've never met a dessert I didn't like, but FH doesn't like cake. We both win this way.

I'm really annoyed I got a cake. haha! Maybe if/when I see cute cake cutting pictures I'll change my mind, but we had SO MUCH CAKE leftover. Both tiers of our "show cake" and about a third of our sheet cake. I ended up throwing most of it away.

We had a GIANT cookie table that was incredibly well received. Therefore, my advice is if you're having another kind of dessert, people won't bother with cake. It also could have been due to the fact that cake was not "served" it was placed out buffet style for people to come get.

My FH really wants a donut cake so that's definitely an option that I'll be considering when the time comes. Smiley smile

We thought about serving mini pies and mini cheesecakes. Decided to add those to the traditional cake because when else in our lives can we get such a huge cake.

We are having a dessert table with 3 different options (brownies, cookies, fruit tart) and we are having whole pies sliced. Instead of a cake cutting we are doing a pie cutting. My FH and I aren't really cake people so we opted for the pies and everyone we've told so far loves the idea!
