Anyone tell themselves that they were just going to go look...

JaKLyn, on August 6, 2014 at 9:28 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18

And ended up coming home with a wedding dress instead? When I went to look at dresses the sole intent of the trip was to see what shape worked with my figure and what look I was going for. I ended up falling in love and ordering a dress that day, 8 days after getting engaged and 17 months prior to the wedding. Whoops! At least I love it, and it's off the list. Anyone else have a similar experience?

JaKlyn must be a Nebraska girl thing. I did it too... I waited a day to go pay for it, but I said yes to the dress the first store I went to!

I did the exact same thing. My fiance and I were traveling somewhere and were ahead of schedule. We happened to drive by a bridal shop that was doing a sale, so we pulled over with the thought I would just get some ideas for the kind of dress I was interested in. Ended up buying my dress that day.

I did, 2 months after our engagement and 14 mos before the wedding. The dress is at the store right now. I have to make an appointment to go try it on and take it home.

I did, too! Four months after getting engaged and more than two years away from the wedding. But I love it and can't wait to wear it!

I kind of did? Story time!

I started looking at dresses last September, (I wanted to hit deals, but my intention was only to look), and completely fell in love with one from a small boutique. It was more than 60% off from $1500, (my budget was 1k), but it was a size 14, (I'm a 6). I loved this dress but the money it would cost in alterations would just jack the price back up to 1500. I wanted it desperately but my mother wanted me to look at other dresses before I commit to that one, (and all the alterations...).

Well the sale only lasted for another two days! That entire weekend was full of nothing but dress shop after dress shop until I found another I liked more. Then I just said fuck it and bought it that day because I was tired of it all.

I did! Although I was under a time crunch so I didn't have much time anyways (and needed to buy off the rack). I went with one of my BM's to figure out what shape I liked/didn't like. Then I was supposed to go with my sister (my MOH) and actually look for a dress with her. But I fell in love with a dress I tried on. After getting her blessing that it was okay to go get it even though she didn't get to be a part of it, I went and paid for it!

Yep, I thought I was just going to see what I liked, and before I knew it I had bought a dress! First store I went to, probably tried on 12 dresses but this was no. 4 or so.

On my 5th shopping trip (the first was to appease family obligations so wasn't really a "trip") I ended up buying the dress that I had tried on at a previous appointment. I was going to wait but I figured, why wait and get more confused? I'm starting to doubt because the picture quality of FSIL's phone is atrocious and it looks bad. Lol. But I remember feeling amazing in it and FMIL and FSIL nearly cried. So I'm happy with it. We had started with a 2 year engagement and I bought the dress 15 months before our date. But it takes 6 months to get in and I'm busy the rest of the year, so it was fine.

HaHa!!! JaKlyn, my story is exactly the same except that I was engaged for 13 days and my wedding was 23 months away! I went to see what style/shape I liked then figured I would go back a few more times to a few more places but I fell in love with a dress and had to have it! I was upset at first and kept thinking how I felt robbed of the experience and I was hurt that I wouldn't get to enjoy dress shopping b/c it was all over but now I am just happy to have it off the list!

They estimated it wouldn't be in until August or September and they got it to me 3 weeks after ordering. Now it's in my FH's cousin's closet so he doesn't snoop.

Yes. I went to look with my FMIL while FH and I were visiting for Thanksgiving. I was really just going to be polite (I wanted to find my dress with MY mom), but I fell in love with two dresses that day. I called my mom and she drove 2.5 hours the next day to see me and so I could make a decision with her there.... but I never expected to find my dress that weekend!

Everyone kept on telling me to wait to try on dresses, but how can you! My engagement in all is 22 months. I found my dress around December and ordered it in February and it comes in, in January! I was scared of having dress regret, but I have not!!

Yeah, I did it. I knew I had so much time until my wedding but I just wanted to try on dresses. September 2013 is when I went "just looking" and ended up with my dress. Now I need to ensure I can still fit in it later.

Hahahahaha this thread is awesome. It made me realize that I definitely need to stay out of bridal stores until I am happy with my weight so that I don't end up buying something while I'm just looking. LOL

I went into the bridal shop for the first time not sure what to expect. I tried on 8-10 dresses, but ended up going with the first one I tried on! I had a big group of people with me (three bridesmaids, my mom, dad, brother and godmother), and somehow we all agreed that this one was the one! Can't wait to go back to the store in a few weeks to get it altered and try it on again!

Oh no. I am going for my first trip "just to look" at Kleinfelds (in NYC) in about a month. I better not come home with a dress-- all of them are out of my budget!

That was me! I didn't officially have my ring yet, but it was picked out (we picked it out together). I asked FH if he was going to want to get married this year or in 2015 (we wanted our specific date). He thought about it and decided on 2014 (my dress was on sale so I only had a week to decide to get it or not).
