Anyone have rehearsal the day-of?

ambrok, on June 8, 2017 at 12:44 PM Posted in Planning 0 18

WP of 6. Officiant hired for a simple 20 minute ceremony. Wedding is at 5pm on a Friday at a hotel. Would you try to squeeze in a 30 minute rehearsal on the day-of instead of having your WP drive the night before? Most are 30 minutes away (1 is 90 minutes away). That seems like a lot of fuss (driving or paying extra to stay the night before). FH feels the rehearsal should be the night before with dinner n drinks. I was thinking day-of rehearsal with a hosted lunch instead. Your thoughts???

    It's up to you.

We ended up having to do a last minute rehearsal because it was raining and we had to work out the backup option indoors. We had 30min before the ceremony and guests were already arriving lol.

    It all worked out though.

In your case, do what works best with your timeline. If you do it the day of, will you have time for get ready, pictures etc all before the ceremony?

If you do, then the day of works just fine if it's just you and wedding party.

Do you have your parents or children involved?

My parents have both passed n FIL will be bringing FH's son. I planned on starting my day at 9am with HMU, lunch, 1.5hrs for 1st look pics, rehearsal n 30 minutes before the ceremony to freshen up/get lined up.

    We are!

It's not that complicated. There is an aisle. People walk down it. Then they stand there. 15 minutes later, they walk out again. It's not rocket science. We will spend a few minutes going over the plan that afternoon. We don't have access to the venue ahead of time, but even if we did we would have no interest in spending time on a rehearsal.

We are too! I won't be there, but FH hasn't been in many weddings and our wedding party is only kids, so they definitely need a quick walk through. The officiant will do a quick walk through with all of them about an hour before the ceremony just so they know where to stand and some details.

ETA: We are having a little get together with our families the night before, but more casual and just because they're traveling in from out of town.

It's super easy so it sounds like if you made time for a 15min rehearsal go for it.

Your WP will appreciate it and you can focus your few days off before doing other things.

We probably will be doing a run through right before the wedding. Our wedding is on a Saturday. We can't rehearse Friday because of a wedding that night. Only other day was Thursday and the entire wedding party won't be in town yet

We will be doing a quick walk or talk thru with the officiant the day of. We probably will really need to go over it with the rb & fg who is 6 & 10.

We did. Our venue has events every night so we couldn't get in for a rehearsal. Our ceremony was like 10 minutes, so it wasn't complicated...

Ours will be day of, doing a run through after the first look.

Venue is out of town for everyone, and only half of the BP will even be there Friday night, so there was no point.

We are! No wp and we don't have access to the venue beforehand. I figure it should take no more then 10-15 minutes to figure out.

Almost none of my venues even offer rehearsals on a different day. It's hard to schedule, BP members are inevitably missing and no one remembers anything we did.

Almost 100% of bridal parties don't need rehearsals. You figure out the processional (ahead of time, not 10 minutes before the ceremony) your venue coordinator or DOC lines you up and sends everyone down the aisle. It's really not that hard. When the officiant says, "all rise" and the second partner comes down the aisle, all eyes are there, so if we need to jigger people around, we can.

I think I've literally done less than 20 rehearsals in 1500 weddings. (and at least half of those were because I was sucking up to the venues....) If you have a pro venue, experienced musicians/dj's and a professional officiant, it's just not necessary.

We're doing a quick ceremony too. We are not having an actual rehearsal since our venue wasn't available and I didn't see the point of practicing anyway but even more so when I found out we couldn't do it at the venue. We are having the rehearsal dinner (which was really the only reason why I wanted the rehearsal lol). My coordinator will know who's walking with who, and the JP will do her thing.

Last minute rehearsals don't leave time for confused people not getting it. That said, unless you're getting married someplace with a weird setup (I know of a church that for some reason had no center aisle until a recent remodel), a rehearsal isn't even entirely necessary. Most people can handle walking in a straight line and any little kids won't remember and/or care regardless of rehearsals. We will be having a rehearsal for three reasons: 1- dinner with the BP after. They're all local except for one, who will be coming the day before and staying with family anyway, so there's really not much extra hassle for them. 2-FMIL is super excited to host a rehearsal dinner. 3- we are incorporating some Brazilian customs and roles and we want to be sure our DOC and BP understand what's going on with those roles. Unless you have reason to expect a misunderstanding from your BP, the rehearsal is a matter of personal preference.

Whatever you do, I don't recommend rehearsal, lunch and wedding all in the same day. That's a lot to pack in especially on a Friday.

My couples choose one or the other. A full blown rehearsal followed by a hosted dinner one or two days before the wedding or a "walk through" about an hour before the actual ceremony.

From what you've described you are better off with a walk through the day of. Be sure to let your officiant know what you decide so they make time for it. Either way your ceremony is going to be great. Best wishes!
