Am I crazy or will this work? Groom's Cake

Gina, on July 12, 2011 at 7:42 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 8

So I'm thinking I want to surprise my husband to be with a groom's cake I made . . . I LOVE making cakes and wish I had enough time to make my own wedding cake . . . but that would be ridiculous. Should I just make him a small grooms cake or will I be crazy to try and fit that it?

When we first started planning our wedding, I really thought there were so many things I could do myself in terms of baking. Looking at it realistically, 82 days away, I know I don't need the added stress. So, I vote no. It is worth piece of mind to have someone else bake it and deliver it.

I would want to make it myself or not do it at all because to him it would be special me making it. I really have nothing else absolutely planned the day before but will things come up?

You don't have things planned- but you'll have ALOT of last minute stuff to do. Plus, you'll have to make the cake at least 2 days before and decorate the day before.

Why would it mean less if someone else baked it versus you doing it? It's still your idea and you suprising him with it... Plus, with a design so simple- your baker will do it for not too much and then there is not stress on your and no risk of spilling the beans about the suprise when he goes to the fridge to get something the night before...

Take it from someone who's 3 days away- DON'T DO IT!!! I don't have very many last-minute things to do, and I'm very happy about that! Several little details have come up, and I'm glad I don't have to deal with that. The pan of brownies I had to make for my son's birthday on Sunday was enough! HAHA!

Plus, it's important to have some time just to breathe and relax and enjoy. :-)

Its a great idea and a great looking cake, but do you really want the added stress days before your wedding? Do you have a trusted friend or family member that can do this for you? I'm having a friend make an Anaheim Ducks hockey cake for my FH for our rehearsal dinner.

    Good luck!

Do it for his b'day -- it will be special then, too.
