Disappointed with videographer - help!

We went with a friend of a friend for our videography and editing and received the video last night. We hate it. It doesn't at all (aside from the music) gel with what I initially asked for in our consultation - tell the sweet and touching story with detail shots of the day overlayed onto fun times with our family and friends. For instance - the first look isn't even in the video :/. Help! Are there editors out there who will edit someone else's footage on a budget? We paid $1700 for this video and I feel like an idiot for not going with my gut and shopping around a bit more.

Can you talk with this person first? Express the concerns you have? Do you have a contract, and if so, what does it say if you aren't satisfied?

This is why it is always advised not to hire a friend.

Hopefully you have a contract and are willing to lose the friendship over your video.

Would this person even allow someone else access to the footage in order to edit? Some contracts specifically prohibit that.

I'm sorry your video is not the way you wanted. Check your contract and talk with the vendor. Express your concerns and see if they will modify the video for you.

Friendor gone wrong for sure! That is actually more than I am paying for my videographer who is not my friend. Wow. Did you guys have a contract? Can you talk to your friend about re-editing it?

Thanks for the advice, all. I do have the raw footage and I'd rather just take it to a different editor all together. I plan to talk to them as well as I do have edits at my disposal but I feel like you all are correct at this point: friendor gone wrong.

Ugh. I have to tell you, I have seen probably hundreds of wedding videos and almost all of them are exactly the same.

Get a partial refund, try to fix it.

Go back to them and explain your vision again and ask if they will edit again based on what you are requesting.
