Disappointed in bustle

I went for my last fitting today. I love my dress but I did not realize how long the train was (I honestly just didn't pay attention!) until I started going to my fittings. Today I finally got to see it fully bustled (before she just held it up and gave me a general idea). I really don't like it....

I went for my last fitting today. I love my dress but I did not realize how long the train was (I honestly just didn't pay attention!) until I started going to my fittings. Today I finally got to see it fully bustled (before she just held it up and gave me a general idea). I really don't like it. She did the french bustle first, which is the 2nd picture, and I did not like it, so she pinned it up to show me how it would look if she changed it to an American style bustle, and that was even worse (3rd pic). It just looks really messy and ruins the back of the dress. So, ultimately I went with the French. I just wanted to share that you might want to consider whether this will bother you or not if you like a dress with a long train.

Is the lace an overlay? if it is - have the seamstress so the satin layer underneath as the french bustle then the lace as the traditional one - have them pin it, might look a little more normal Smiley smile

    Good luck!

I would ask her if there are any other options for your bustle. I don't like how your dress is bustled either in those photos. There are lots of ways to bustle. I like French on your dress better than American, but maybe it might look better with 2 tiers of french bustles instead of just 1 row. Anyway, if you're unhappy with it, I'd work with her or find photos of other bustles that you do like.

I think the French bustle looks best with your gown! I also like the suggestions of others about the 2-tier French bustle. My train looks very similar to yours, and I opted for the American bustle. I liked the way it looked when she held it up by hand, but now I'm nervous it's going to look like your 2nd picture once it's done. It just doesn't look natural at all. =/

I'm worried about this also. I go for my second fitting on saturday and we are doing the bustle then. She mentioned she was going to show me the french and american bustle to see what looks best with my dress but now that i see them on your's i dont really like either of them. Im nervous now about mine!!

I'm not crazy about my bustle either my dress is pretty full at the bottom so the bustle just added a lot of volume >.< that being said I'm a curvier / fluffier bride and the French made me look even bigger so I went with an American still not in LOVE with my bustle but don't care enough about it to do anything lol ... Btw on you I like French better you pull it off way better than I ever could! Lol

What about this one? Its called a double tip french bustle, Im going to ask her to try this one. I really dont like the american at all and this one flows more rather than the original french bustle

I definitely like the look of what Ashlee just posted...the double french. That's really pretty. I liked that my dress had a ruffled skirt because when it was bustled it looked like that's how it should be. It was perfect!

I had one week to get all my alterations done. I didn't really question much once she started pinning. my bustle was just a hook and eye basically. It kinda looked like my butt was eating my dress lol. This is the ONLY pic of my dress bustled, so I don't really care.

I'm going through the same thing as you. I don't have a picture of my dress on this computer (work) but I can give you some advice. The way that we settled on my bustle is that it's going to be three point pinned/hooked right at the top of the skirt. I have a super long train as well so it's basically picking up the train where it meets the floor (length of the rest of the skirt) and bringing that to where the top of the skirt and corset part of the dress meet. She did 3 sections, one right in the middle, where the zipper is and that one fans out over the other two. The other two are about six inches apart from the middle. It gives it a flowing look and lays flat so there's not a huge hump where my already big butt is. See if they can do that. DEFINITELY speak up and tell them that it isn't something that you like, otherwise you're spending money for no reason. MOST alterations people don't care and want you to be happy so keep working at it!

Thank you! I have called the seamstress and left a message for a call back. This is difficult for me because I am very much a "go with the flow and don't be a pain" type of girl but I am going to ask her about the two other styles that have been mentioned/shown here.
