Disappointed in bustle

Becky, on August 26, 2014 at 7:04 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 31

I went for my last fitting today. I love my dress but I did not realize how long the train was (I honestly just didn't pay attention!) until I started going to my fittings. Today I finally got to see it fully bustled (before she just held it up and gave me a general idea). I really don't like it. She did the french bustle first, which is the 2nd picture, and I did not like it, so she pinned it up to show me how it would look if she changed it to an American style bustle, and that was even worse (3rd pic). It just looks really messy and ruins the back of the dress. So, ultimately I went with the French. I just wanted to share that you might want to consider whether this will bother you or not if you like a dress with a long train.

I like the french better for sure on yours. I actually had my train cut off because the bustle was ugly and I felt like it ruined the back of my lovely dress. I also didn't like that when bustled the dress was heavy against the back of my legs. Your dress is absolutely gorgeous BTW!

:-( I am sorry this happened so late in the game. I do not think the French Bustle looks bad at all! The American bustle looks awkward with that dress. If I had to pick between the 2, I'd go french. but do not worry, nobody be judging your bustle.

Bustles almost always look weird, give you a "bubble butt", hang with the grace of a wadded down comforter, etc. No one will remember the bustle and the French style is very common and suitable. All your guests will remember is you walking down the aisle with that amazing train and not the bustle!

I like the french better on yours. But I also hate french bustles. She said it was the shape of my trane that made it hard to bustle.

I'm glad you all likes the French. Normally I prefer American but once I saw them I decided French was the right call

I had a pretty big train (chapel length). I'm not sure what my bustle was called, but it was pulled up into a point. I think bustles look weird in general. Do think this could be an option?

Becky - I think the seamstress made the right suggestion with the french bustle, as to not take away from the lace pattern on the back and bottom of your dress. I can't really see the back of Kim's dress... but it doesn't look like it has the same lace layout as yours does.

it never hurts to ask if you can see a different bustle style, but i think the french will do your dress the most justice.

My dressmaker showed me that she would bustle mine the same as what kims too! I think it looks fine this way. I was going to go for a shorter train until she showed me how it would look like this. Hope you can do it with yours!

Yes seamstress told me French would be best to not hide the lace. Thanks for all your reassurances! Can't wait to wear it in 2 months!

I think less points (5 max) in the american bustle and one center point being higher would work nicely. The side points should be spread out more to let the fabric lay more flat. just my opinion.

I agree with Jet. I have a 9 pt on mine, however my fabric is lightweight with chiffon, so the pleats lay flat and don't give the appearance of bubble butt.

I'm so sorry. I do love the train on your dress. I pick up my dress this weekend and doing the french bustle. I'm a bit nervous :/. No matter what, you will look beautiful.

I think the single french bustle looks like a diaper! But a double french bustle is gorgeous, can you try that and see if you like it? I wanted a french one, but my outer fabric is organza (see through) and you would have been able to see the ribbon underneath so it didn't work. I ended up with an american. I have a trumpet dress, it does look nice though. The picture is the double french!

My bustle was like Kim's too, and it was one of my favourite things about my dress! Don't have any pictures of it from the actual wedding but this one was from my last fitting. It just pulled up into a point at my butt and looked so pretty!
