Directions in invitations?

E&J, on June 30, 2015 at 4:18 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

How many of you felt the need to include some sort of map or directions as an enclosure with your invites? Currently I have 2-sided invitation cards with ceremony info on the front and reception info on the back. They are at 2 different locations about 10 minutes apart, and I've given the addresses for both. Is that enough, or should I include an enclosure with directions to get from ceremony to reception? And a related question: our ceremony is in one particular garden of a park that has several gardens. I've given the name of the garden we've reserved, but should I include a small park map that shows where it is in relation to the entrance and what the best parking area is? This info will all go on the wedding website, but I'm just wondering if I should also include it with the invites for older guests or those who don't look at the website. Thanks in advance!

I did not include it. My thinking was that it was on the website. Now you have me second guessing for the older folks! I think though that the only older people will probably have someone drive them so I might be ok. I wouldn't add directions in your invitation unless it's super tricky to get to?

We included index card sized direction cards (printed on the same stationary as our invitations, just not as thick) in the invitation. I think most people these days are able to use google maps and look up how to get to the venue, but the venue had really clear instructions for taking the subway and driving, so it seemed easy to just include that so people don't have to do any work on their own.

I didn't include. It's on our website and the invitations say so. But soooo many people have gps through their phone or car or whatever that they are likely to use that over your invitation directions anyway.

Yeah, that was my thinking as well--the grandparents won't be driving themselves. I was hoping for that response because I really don't want to add more stuff to the invites, but I also don't want people lost/confused.

We had the invite with a patterned back, then the RSVP card, and an info card that had a map on the back. I feel like it's not necessary, it was more of a space filler for me.

Yeah, I figure at least 75% of the guests will be able to figure it out on their own. But some of FH's family members are on the less tech-savvy side and I'm not sure they'd use the website. But... Maybe word of mouth will be enough. Seems like people have gone both ways with this.

@Rosemary, if we had pocket invitations, I'd do that, but we don't. That's the other issue--I feel like if I add stuff beyond just the basic invite/RSVP card, I'll need to get pockets to keep everything together, and then I might need larger envelopes, more postage, etc., etc. It's a slippery slope. :-)

I am including them just from the major highway because apparently no one in my family knows how to use google or the internet to find directions or my wedding website

I didn't include. I just gave them the address and figured I'd deal with the phonecalls from the older folks Smiley tongue

No we didn't include directions. We have them on our website and figure people will just look them up with all the map apps and websites nowadays!

The address is on the invite and I know for a fact everyone uses GPS that's coming to my wedding. It's also on my website though just in case. I wouldn't worry about it.

Ok, these responses are making me feel better. I think I'll leave out the directions from ceremony to reception. Might still do the small park map, though, because that's not as easy to find with Google (the specific garden within the park).

I included directions because cell service and gps service are terrible in our area.

We have a reception card with our wedding website, and directions will be on the website.
