Direction Card enclosed w/ invitation?

Tricia F., on May 10, 2011 at 1:11 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

I'm not sure whether the direction card is suppose to be sent out with the invitations? The church and venue for our reception are 45 minutes apart. The address to the church is already printed on the invitation so would the directions only be from the church to the venue?

I put the directions from the church to the hall.

I put the hotel booking info.

I put a map that had all 3 locations marked (church, hall, hotel)

and the wedding website for them to go to for more info.

I enclosed one in our invitations. One side was directions to the church and the other was directions to the reception. I knew that some people would not come to the ceremony but would come to the reception so I wanted to be sure they knew where they were going. I did say on the front (directions to the church) that directions and a map from the church to the reception venue would be provided at the church (enclosed in the programs)

Thanks, Hayley. I'm just afraid that if the direction cards are sent with the invitations, that the guests will forget to bring on the day wedding and ask directions anyway. What do you think about including it in the program or just giving them out the day of?

I am putting everything mentioned by Hayley in our "invitation packets". I am also including a quick version of the menu to be served (we are doing a dual entree) this was if a guest has any allergies (we have peanuts in our salad) they can say so.

Edit: our ceremony and reception is in the same place, that's why we are including in the actual invitation.

The only problem would be if anyone skips the church... Maybe they have 2 events that day and are doing yours 2nd.

    Maybe do both?

I agree with Hayley's suggestion to do both. I have seen this same situation play out kinda badly because the directions were not included with the invitations. This couple had their reception in another county, and only listed the directions on their programs. No one really "got" that the reception was so far from the ceremony location until they arrived at the wedding. Some of the guests were a little PO'd having to drive that far with such little warning.

All of my customers have included their directions cards (if they had one) with their invitations. A lot of those who do so will go with pocketfold invitations, include several cards of information. But... I do love the idea of including the directions with the ceremony programs! Maybe printed on the back, or as a separate card.

Pocketfold invitations? Uhh I didn't get those. I always knew we were going to include hotel info w/ the invitations but didn't realize it would need to be a pocketfold style invite Smiley sad I will be including hotel info and direction card along with the invitation.

Your concerns definitely tell me you should include both. Personally, I like to receive it in my invitation so I can plan ahead, but I bet more than half of your guests will still ask for directions the day of (for whatever reason.) If it's in your budget, I would order extra and include both.

Most of our guests live in Fort Lauderdale, 2 hours away and the reason I'm concerned is because if they happen to leave the invitation or direction card at home, they couldn't just easily turn around to get it. But yes, I think I will be included it with the invitations and with the programs.

We had it easy since our ceremony & reception are at the same location. I printed our direction cards/maps myself since i drew the map (yea PowerPoint!) but I would recommned enclosing directions to both locations

Tricia- you don't *have* to have pocketfold invitations! You can easily slide that directions card in the envelope with the invitation and response card.

I was just remembering that a lot of the couples who did go with direction cards also did map cards, hotel info cards, and so on, and then went with a pocketfold to put them all in.
