Dinner salad

MTR, on July 2, 2016 at 11:11 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

So we are having a buffet style dinner. We are having salads with the main course. My mom thinks that we should have everyone go up and get their salad and then everyone go back up and get the main course. I don't want my guest to have to keep getting up.

What would you guys do in this situation?

Let people get whatever they want. How are you going to control JUSt getting salad? I'm assuming all food will be out. If its a buffet, then people should be able to get whatever they want at whichever point they want.

If it's buffet style, can they not just get up and grab what they like?

Is your mom wanting to have just the salad stuff set out and then later set the dinner out?

I feel like if it's buffet style, it should be fine to put it all out so people can grab what they like when they want.

We used to always do a pre set salad with our buffets, at each place when the guests were seated.

Personally I'm planning on having a plated salad starter and the rest buffet. A caterer once told me this was one way to make dinner feel a little more "formal", but I also want something in front of people so FH and I have a second to shove some food in before people try talking to us!

I agree with what @OGJaci and @Celia said about a pre-plated salad option being a good choice. Even when eating a salad with the main course instead of as an opener I prefer having two plates, and I think having people carry two things is just asking for someone to drop something (meaning me. I would be the one who drops it and spills all over my fancy clothes). And if you preplate, people could either eat the salad ahead of time or with the main course, as they prefer.

I would have plated salads when guests sit down. And then open the buffet once they are done the salads.

We are doing buffet style for the meal, however we are having plated salad and bread/butter. I thought this was a good option so people have food when they sit down.

I like the idea of a plated salad but I don't know how we would be able to do that. I will have to talk with my mom and see what she says.

Plated salads would definitely help eliminate the issue of having people get up twice. Are you able to do that at your venue?

We're a served salad and then buffet. Our venue won't set the table unless something served m
