Does anyone have any creative/fun ideas to avoid the clanking of glasses to get the bride & groom to kiss during the reception? It DRIVES ME BATTY!!! This is a Danish tradition. People bang on the table and you stand on the chairs to kiss, then they'll stomp their feet and you get under the table and kiss.

I also get annoyed with this. However, I recently went to a wedding where they did the thing where, if you clink the glasses, they drew a table number, and that table had to sing a song with the word "love" in it for the bride and groom to kiss. Sounds like a good idea? It was SO FUCKING ANNOYING!!! I was like, god damn it, just kiss! I think it was because there were like a trillion kids at this wedding who thought it was super cute to just klink away, so I swear, the glasses were like, constantly klinking. I was so freaking annoyed by the end of the night. Just remembering this is making me annoyed. Hahaha.

How we are solving it: after that wedding FH and I decided on plastic cups.

    @ storm, that's a cute idea!

@ Future_mrs_D...That's true. There IS a balance between making it too ridiculous and just kissing. I think so far I like this chocolate idea because it's simple and wouldn't be too annoying for others... We don't have many kids at our wedding, and most of them are older (12-14 years old-ish)

My cousins wedding anyone who wanted to see the couple kiss had to do a dance in front of the head table first. That managed to keep it down to 3 kisses the entire dinner. It was great.

I went to a wedding a few years ago where instead of clinking the glasses, if you wanted the couple to kiss you had to hula hoop on the dance floor.

It was fun, not annoying and people probably didn't want to embarrass themselves so it wasn't excessive.

Sorry, I'm not placating them, I'm not playing any games...

You clink your glass, you get ignored, it's that fucking simple. You'll get the hint.

@FutureMrsV I bet that hoola hoop thing for the few people that did it was pretty funny, though!!! Same comment to @LetItSnow

I don't really mind kissing, I just think the thing with the glasses is overly loud and it makes me roll my eyes because it happens SO MANY TIMES.

I didn't even know this was a thing. I've never seen it and it didn't happen at my wedding. With enough music, is it really going to happen?

Pezzy - yeah, I get that. The whole game thing is pretty silly. My goal at least is to get some sort of entertainment out of the whole ordeal.

EricaTx....Yes. It does. At least in my family it would probably happen every 5 minutes. Even with the demo kissing thing that my cousin did, they still had to kiss about 4 or 5 times.

We are asking people to donate a dollar to prostate cancer research (my dad had prostate cancer) to get us to kiss.

I saw a hilarious "Wedding Program" and this is what their alternative was for glass clinking (changed it slightly):

"I'm Going to Clink my Glass to Make the Couple Kiss!...

Sorry that won't work this time. The couple finds it annoying and it's probably not good for the glasses. Instead, you'll notice a large, red, inflatable die in front of the head table. If you want the couple to kiss, you need to come up and roll the dice. Roll evens will make the couple kiss. Roll odds and you have to kiss somebody."

That should be a pretty fun game!!!!

I really want a "kissing gong"! That way someone will have to be brave and get up in front of everyone if they really want us to kiss.

I don't know if it's regional, but I've never seen it. Now, granted, at my wedding, we had plastic glasses, but it didn't happen either at another wedding I went to a couple of weeks ago (also in Houston).

That's sweet WinnipegWriter. I kind of want to do a donation thing to Canadian Mental Health because my uncle won't be able to make it due to mental health problems, and the system out there really isn't making him improve (I don't blame the system). Hmmm.. So many good ideas.... Now I'm going to have a hard time deciding .... Smiley smile
