My mom wants to throw me a personal shower. She said that when she was younger the bride would have a shower for personal items just for the bride. I was told on here that showers were for registry items. Now I'm just confused. Before I joined WW I thought a bridal shower was for gifts just for the bride but I was told I was wrong. Now my Mom is totally confused too because all the showers she's been to are specifically for the bride. Help!! Are there different types of showers?

Every shower I've ever been to had both household gifts and bedroom gifts. In fact, I've never been to a shower where the bride didn't receive lingerie. That may just be my crew and how they do it. A friend did have one of those Pure Romance parties as her shower/girls night. It was so much fun and my mom goes to all that stuff. She's the first one in the door! I love it!

Erin- you could also do a co-ed shower and make it a bbq hang out sort of thing, or a recipe shower, where people give you their favorite recipes.

All the showers I have been to have been thrown by mom's, I don't think that is as big of an issue. The lingerie would be a he'll no for me. I don't like when sex scenes happen in a movie I am watching with my mom.

@the D- You remember correctly! I would definitely rather do a BBQ without gifts and maybe this is something my Mom could throw since it's more of a woman's gathering than a shower. She already hosted the engagement party so I may just tell her she's done. HaHa! I love the idea of a recipe shower. I have a couple friends that did those.

Wish I had the problem of people throwing too many parties for me that I don't know what they're all for...

I think it's acceptable for your mom to throw you a shower or some kind of party, just tell her you don't want it to be a lingerie shower because you are uncomfortable with that in general. Then maybe you can have a small bach party (without your mom) and your girls can give you lingerie

I have a lot of female relatives so they are throwing a couple different showers- but my Bach party will be where I get lingerie (if I do at all, I just assume I will because my MOH got it at hers) and that is just going to be my friends. My mom tried to pick out some lingerie for me the other day when we were doing regular shopping but then admitted that she went to a lingerie shower where the bride's FMIL was there and it was awkward as all get out haha so I think she understands

If your mom wants to throw you a shower, let her...just let her know what you're comfortable with.

For the majority weddings I've been in/ been to the lingerie shower was done at the bachelorette because it was with the closest female friends (aka who wants to open a lingerie set in front of their mom/FMIL).

The bridal shower was gifts for the registry. The key thing is: Do what you are comfortable with! You can make any shower the way you want to and base if off you, your mom, and who she's inviting Smiley laugh I know someone that did a personal shower but instead of a lingerie shower it was a pajama shower, which I LOVED.
