Different traditions in different areas. (Dollar dance, garter toss etc)

One thing I definitely noticed is a lot of the "activities" at weddings vary from family tradition & location. For example. Same with the dollar dance, where im from I have never seen one of those done before I didn't even know what it was but I know in other areas they do it a lot!

Its just crazy how different traditions are in diff parts of the US (or world)

I've definitely heard of the garter thing. I caught the bouquet at a wedding once, and the " boy " who caught the garter was way younger than me. It was very awkward and slightly inappropriate.

I know the dollar dance, but I've never seen it at a wedding, probably because of my area.

I think there is a BIG difference between seeing something done at other weddings and having to do it at YOUR wedding. Something being common does not mean its *required*.

I would not care if I had seen the garter thing at 100 previous weddings. I would never do it at my wedding because I can imagine how awkward and embarrassing that would be both to watch and participate in. There is something called common sense, which can override so-called tradition.

The garter on the leg thing, I haven’t seen a lot. All of our “single” friends that were on the dance floor for the tosses at our wedding were all practically engaged. Some of them are now. I think it would make them or their significant others feel uncomfortable! But again, it’s an area thing. It’s more accepted in other places.

Dollar dance is almost always at a wedding I go to.

I have never seen a dollar dance but the bouquet/garter has been at every wedding I've ever been to. FH is putting the garter on a football to toss it out. One of my friends caught the bouquet at a wedding and we were all dying when the guy put the garter on her. It was hilarious. Otherwise, I think our wedding is pretty standard.

It's funny, I am in the northeast but went to 2 weddings in Ohio (my cousins on my father's side). At the Ohio weddings, the guy who caught the garter was supposed to put it on the leg of the girl that caught the bouquet but at one of my cousin's weddings, my sister caught the bouquet and she was only 12 at the time so she just danced with the guy. There was an open bar at both Ohio weddings and a dollar dance at both weddings.

Here in MA, all the weddings have had a cash bar (we are having open bar for cocktail hour and then switching to a cash bar), no dollar dance and no bouquet/garter toss (but only because I don't want to do it).
