Different shoes for ceremony & reception

Sarah, on November 5, 2019 at 1:16 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
I plan on wearing two different pairs of shoes - one for the ceremony through first dance, another for the party.

Here's my dress: https://www.justinalexander.com/lillian-west/collection/wedding-dresses/6470/
Reception shoes (already purchased): https://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_crochet-lace-sneakers-carrson?mr:trackingCode=E5F7502F-9F9C-E811-8107-0050569419E4&mr:referralID=NA&mr:device=c&mr:adType=online&gclid=Cj0KCQiA2ITuBRDkARIsAMK9Q7PcPgpWLQAvAxJ_Iq9mNr1raaYntfR1O9liobWpj9g-0LpRn6GV2UMaAny9EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
Ceremony shoes (considering purchasing): https://www.etsy.com/listing/744049811/nude-satin-or-satin-ivory-lace-overlay?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=wedding+shoes+low+heel&ref=sr_gallery-1-25&col=1

I'm a little concerned that with the difference in heel height between the two pairs, the hem on the dress will be funky (either too short for ceremony or too long for dancing). The ceremony heels are about 2.25 inches (6 cm). Do you think both shoes could work with the dress?

If you wore different shoes for different parts of your ceremony, tell me what your experience was!

You should have your dress hemmed to the shoe you are walking down the aisle in (which would be the heel). You don't want to trip trip!! And you don't want a dress that is too short! The dress will be longer during the reception, but you will also bustle it so it should pull some up a little off the floor in front of you.

I got married on the beach in my bare feet and the. Wore block heels for my reception. I let my dress drag the ground for the ceremony and had it fit length wise for my reception.

    Hey there, Sarah!

As Kiley mentioned, would you consider adding a bustle or wrist strap to your dress? That way you could get it hemmed to suit the ceremony shoes, and then during the reception, be able to adjust it if your struggling or tripping with it?

I hadn't thought about that! My sewing knowledge is very limited, so I wasn't sure if it would be possible. That gives me some peace of mind Smiley smile

I think both pairs will work with the dress. You also picked shoes for the reception that don't necessarily have a heel, but definitely have some height, so it may not be as big of a difference as you think. I'm wearing flats for reception and ceremony (a comfier pair for reception cause I plan on dancing!) but while looking for shoes I thought about height difference cause some shoes have some height even if they are considered flats. Style wise I think they're both perfect! And like others said, if you bustle the dress it should help with some of the height difference.

Im wearing a block heel for both the ceremony and reception. I went with a heel i usually wear anyway. I would hate to make my feet uncomfortable on a day I'm going to nervous lol

Omg we are dress twins!! I am wearing a 2" heel for the ceremony and first dance and will probably change into flip flops or some other comfy shoe for dancing. Definitely get the dressed hemmed to the height of your heels. Most of your pictures you will be in them and while dancing you can always hold the dress/use the bustle.

Thank you! And kudos to you for wearing flats for the ceremony. I feel like there is such pressure to get super high "bridal" heels for your wedding, but I want to be comfortable!

No way! I bought mine when I went shopping, not planning on getting anything, but it was the only one they had left and it's no longer being made. I just couldn't pass it up. Can you send a picture of your shoes?
