Did your MUA make you sign a contract and pay for their services before your trial?

I'm not sure if this is normal so just want to know what you ladies did. To me it seems weird to sign a contract and pay for it when I don't even know if I'm going to like what they do....

I just signed a contract and sent a deposit. It IS kinda weird, but you sign a contract and put a deposit down with the venue, florist, dj, photographer, and you aren't positive you will like what they do. So it's kinda the same thing.

That is odd. I wouldn't bother to do business with someone who wanted that!

That's insane. I would never sign a contract before the trial. What if she sucks?

Yes, that's normal. I signed a contract and paid a deposit so she would hold my wedding date. The trial was not for several more months. It's business - she can't hold a future date for you without some security (deposit), otherwise you could flake out on her when she could have booked someone else for that date.

You probably *could* book a trial and pay for that first, and then book your wedding date and pay the deposit after that though. I don't see a problem with that other than risking your date being booked by someone else in the meantime.

That's normal I would think. I signed a contract and paid $100 deposit to my MUA/Hair- it goes toward my trial with them.

Yes, it's normal and I highly recommended it to protect the both of you. Also putting half down as a deposit is the norm too, then the balance on the wedding day.

Also if you don't sign a contract, your "mua" is basically an amateur. This is makeup 101 for those saying no. Anything can happen, and verbal agreements don't go far.

I don't mind signing a contract and paying a deposit. I just thought it was weird that they are making me pay the entire amount before I even get a trail....

@champagne I'm getting mine done at the Luxe salon

Hello as a make up artist who just graduated we learned that we have to have some type of agreement. for both parties it goes both ways if the client cancels or the mua cancels for whatever reason. Smiley smile
