Did you register for China?

Hi! I'm trying to figure out if we should scratch the China from our registry. It seems like such a waste. I mean, I'm all for China, but it seems unnecessary in our lives right now and just soo expensive. I don't want to end up with a couple pieces of a set that we then have to finish buying. But...

Hi! I'm trying to figure out if we should scratch the China from our registry. It seems like such a waste. I mean, I'm all for China, but it seems unnecessary in our lives right now and just soo expensive. I don't want to end up with a couple pieces of a set that we then have to finish buying. But my family feels it's tradition to put a China set. FH and I registered back in like March, and I thought nothing of it, but now we were thinking to just delete them. I'd rather someone buy something else off the registry. Did you ladies/guys include China when you registered? What were your thoughts about it?

Sort of. My great aunt, who is like my grandmother growing up, offered me her wedding china from her first marriage, as a wedding gift. Her husband passed several years ago, both her kids have their own patterns they registered for, and she is consolidating down to one house. (She recently remarried, late in life.)

We had planned on registering for a similar pattern, slightly less ornate maybe, but I remember eating Thanksgiving and Easter off this china every year growing up! *glow*

Yep, I did. I probably don't have an immediate need for it, but to me it just seemed so traditional; and I love formal china. We registered for Lenox Opal Innocence. Received 12 place settings and some service pieces at my shower.. Ultimately you have to do what's best for you and your situation. Though I have noticed more and more among my circle of friends, that they have not been registering for formal china for various reasons.

    This is mine:

Hmm, great answers, thank you all!!! I'm going to scrap it. I just shared this with FH (he's getting ready for work) and he agrees, it just doesn't fit with our life at this time, and if we want China later down the road we can just purchase a set.

@Amy, we looked at that set, it's very pretty. We registered for the Lenox Venetian Lace, I love the look. But realistically it doesn't fit with us right now. I do look forward to getting China one day, but right now we recently bought a condo (so no space) and our schedules are such that we don't (and won't) be hosting dinners for awhile.

Michelle - China is one of those things people get annoyed with carting through moves, don't have room for in their homes once kids come ect. We bought a full set for $30 at a flea market, that we are using for our table numbers / wedding décor. It is the Sheffield Serenade pattern.

I am not, but I know it would have been expected on my mom's side, but since my mother passed away, my dad and sister's agreed that my parents wedding China could be mine. Unfortunately I am so far away from being at a point in my life that i can use formal dinnerware, so it is all sitting in boxes and will probably remain that way until we get a house.

We did, but didn't get any. Thank goodness honestly b/c we don't have any space for it. We got every day stuff which we plan to use.

We did not register for high-end china. We instead did the upgraded nicer everyday dishes. However, I did register for what is considered Christmas "china". It is still not what i would consider real china. However, I have wanted a Christmas dish set for years and this is probably one of the things on the registry that i seriously WANT.
