Did you look for your so or did your so find you?

I'm wondering how everyone on this forum went about meeting their significant other, or if it just happened. Most people I know who are dating at the moment met as neighbors or in a class or at work. I'm wondering how everyone on this forum went about meeting their significant other, or if it just happened. Most people I know who are dating at the moment met as neighbors or in a class or at work. In contrast, I didn't meet anyone at school, and my first job was with mostly people out of my age range, so I went out looking for opportunities to meet my SO: going to mixers and bars, using dating apps, going on blind dates when offered, etc.

Recently a friend told me she doesn't know how I did what I did because she is so shy and she wants to meet someone more organically. She does want be in a relationship. It made me think about the different paths.
So how did you and your SO come together? Were you looking, or did fate set you up?

DH was in a show that a friend/mentor of mine was directing.

I was in a show said friend/mentor was producing, to fill in the theatre between DH's show.

Friend is sneaky, says to DH, "Hey, you know the writer and the director of this other show, will you please give them the keys? I know you will be staying around here for lunch."
    DH: "...Ok, no problem."

*DH sits in front of theatre in NYC, wearing a Phillies shirt*

Me, coming up to theatre for rehearsal, with a Phillies glitter tattoo on my arm: "...You're a Phillies fan, too? The Marlins are *killing* us right now!" (...These have become prophetic words.)

Love at first sight. (Though I was a little freaked out that DH was not yet 23 at the time, as I had just turned 29.)

First kiss a week later, dating by the next. 8 years together this past July, 1 year married as of Monday.

So, we were set up, without ever knowing we were set up.

Friend had a seat of honor at our wedding. Sadly, he passed away in January, right before our honeymoon. While I miss the art we created together, there will never be enough words for how grateful I am for him putting me in the way of DH.

We met in grad school, he was in the cohort behind mine, but we shared office space, had classes together, socialized, etc. Finally got together at a conference in 2013. We've been married 3 years this past July.

College, I was a freshman and he had already graduated. I remember walking into the room and seeing him (we were at a club meeting he was still a part of) and he remembers walking in and seeing me. Either way, I dumped my bf at the time, made a move to get closer to him. Now it's been 7 years and due to covid we are having a backyard wedding in 3 days with a big ceremony next year.

We met on Tinder! Both of us had just gotten out of relationships so neither of us were looking for anything long term but it just turned out that way. We've been together for 6 years Smiley smile

We met through an internship at our college. We were both in the same master's program and interned with the athletic department. We connected immediately and were best friends for about a year before we started dating. Then we got engaged within the first year of officially dating

We met on the dating app Plenty of Fish. Both of us were just entering the dating scene again and neither of us were looking for anything serious. At the time I lived about an hour and a half away from her, so when she half jokingly asked me on a date and I accepted she was shocked. I made the drive down and we were both kind of expecting to be stood up, but it turned out to be the best date of my life where I met the love of my life!

My Fh and I met on tinder. He jokingly says this is the longest one night stand ever! I was in it for the free dinner with a cute guy, but then he turned out to be amazing!

Depends on which one of us you ask lol. Full story is we ran in the same circle in college, I dated one of his friends so we would see each other at parties and what not. After we broke up I didn't hang out with that group anymore. Fast forward 6 years and I see him on Tinder, although I couldn't place him I knew we somehow knew each other...also helps that Tinder shows mutual Facebook friends lol. We chatted for a bit and I eventually offered him my number..... I ended up accidentally giving him the wrong number...so I honestly thought he had blown me off until he reached back out through Tinder. After that we set up a date and as sappy as it sounds I knew I wanted him around forever probably within the first hour or so. I remember telling my best friend to come over the next day so we could talk about it and I spent the day convincing her I wasn't crazy and he was the one lol. Now we will be getting married on our 5 year anniversary and I cannot wait!!

I met my FH at work. A freak March blizzard and his friend (who was a supervisor) actually pushed us together xD. I got stranded overnight, and I asked if I could start early (8 am vs 1 pm) so I could go home earlier, and they agreed since my training officer wasn't going to be able to make it in. My FH was freshly divorced, and his trainee happened to be testing for certification, so his friend decided to play "haaaaaaave you met ______?"

We met in high school, in PE when he was the only guy in the class due to a scheduling issue with the class he actually wanted to take! I had just moved across the country to a major city from a small city at one of the biggest high schools, and was experiencing a lot of culture shock and mental health issues. We started talking at the end of the first semester when I overheard a conversation about Star Wars and Bath and Body works and we became best friends! In the next couple months we gained HUGE crushes on each other and hinted at it ALL THE TIME but neither of us were brave enough to make a move lol. Finally in May at the end of the school year he admitted he liked me and we started dating! I moved back to my hometown the end of my junior year the day after he graduated and we were long distance for almost 2 years. My parents have never approved of our relationship and don't like him (In short I left their high-demand religion around the same time and they blame him) but we've managed to overcome so many challenges together and we are getting married on our 4.5 year anniversary! We are so happy together! We weren't looking for relationships (in fact he had just gotten over a major crush that rejected him lmao) and we are both pretty young (20 and 22) but when you know, you know!

I was at a local dive bar that me and my best friend frequented and a random guy came up to us and brought us drinks and then asked us to sit with him and his friends. We immediately declined and kept drinking, as the night went on it got colder in the bar so we eventually went outside and the same guy asked us to join him and his friends. Me being the snarky person I am reluctantly agreed because there were no other tables. My friend ended up talking to that guy and I overheard his friends talking about how '94 is gen z and I jumped in to correct them and boom I met him. It was an instant connection, drunk me spoke to him about everything under the sun and we even kissed (Its very unlike me to kiss strange boys at bars)! My best friend till this day said she knew because of the fact I kissed him.... 8 months later we were engaged.

It just happened. I was fairly fresh into deciding to divorce my then husband (about 2 months after moving into my own place when we separated) when I met my now husband (this was almost 4 years ago).

I made a last minute decision to go to an Oktoberfest in the mountains a couple hours away with a girl I'd recently met (I never hung out with her again because she was freaking drama central - but that's a different story). He was there with friends of his. He asked me to dance (initially intending to try to set me up with a shy friend of his later found out, lol), we started talking and just really hit it off - and realized we only lived about 15 minutes apart! When I finally left to go find/rescue the crazypants chic I was hanging out with for the weekend, he asked for my phone #. We kept talking by phone & text and went on an official date 2 weeks later (I had gone out of town for work right after that weekend away).

Since I was in the process of a divorce, we kept it light and casual (but exclusive since their of us was the type to date multiple people) until a few months after that finalized before both of us admitting that we were really serious, LOL. He waited almost 3 more years for me to be ready before he proposed. We just got married July 12th.

    I love reading these stories!

I was definitely looking. I had lived on my own for about two years for pretty much the first time in my life, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, but I was ready for a partner. We met on Tinder. I didn't think I would like him because he put "lol" after almost every text, haha. And he nearly left when he saw me because he thought I was "too good" for him. Luckily he didn't. He was so nice and had the best smile, but I was still seeing other people. We went to dinner a few nights later and spent the whole night together, and at that point i was pretty sure. By date three, I knew. He asked me to be exclusive, and we were engaged within six weeks. He's always saying he needs to write a thank-you note to Tinder. I'm glad we're not the only Tinder couple!

We met when we were 13 at a church camp. I was 5'1 (still am) and he was 4'6" (now is 6 foot.) He was playing carpet ball, a game where you roll pool balls down a table to knock the other persons off. I thought he was cute, so I went over to play with him. I just chucked the ball as hard as I could and it would hit the back of the table, bounce, and hit him in the face. For some reason, he wanted to be my friend after that. We were pretty good friends for a year but had a falling out when we were in our freshman year of high school. Sophomore year we became friends again and were crushing on each other for 9 months. We finally got together the day before I started my junior year of high school. Have been together for 6 years now and engaged for 8 months.

We met on the dating app plenty of fish. I saw his profile, his intro said "looking for someone who can handle a crazy, goofy, sweet guy". I sent him a message and asked him "how crazy are we talking?". I didnt think I'd hear back from him but sure enough 5 minutes later he responds. We had our first date a week after meeting online in November 2015. We had this strong connection from moment we met. We became official on November 24, 2015. We had our daughter March 2017. He proposed August 2019. Our wedding is next month.
