Did it snow/rain on your wedding day???

Deidre, on December 10, 2017 at 8:17 AM Posted in Planning 0 19

I'm getting married at the beginning of April in Ohio and you never know how the weather will be then. I am so nervous it will snow or rain. I know there's literally nothing I can do about that, but I want to know- how did it affect your guest count, timeline, and pictures?

I love both the ceremony and the reception spaces but our ceremony is at our local Church and they have a beautiful outside where I wanted our pictures taken.

I just want to hear from others who have had their weddings with les than ideal weather situations Smiley smile

While I do not have any experience with this YET my FH and I are also getting married in Ohio in January. We keep joking that it will either be 25 degrees and 2 feet of snow OR 65 degrees and raining. The only the snow may affect our guest count is if we get a big snow storm the day or two before as FH has a lot of OOT guests coming from the west. Timeline wise, we added in some extra time for buffer just in case weather goes crazy. Picture wise, we hadn't planned on doing pictures outside unless it it already really warm or its snowing out.

I’m getting married 2 weeks before you in Ohio and this is also a big concern of mine. I’ve always wanted a good amount of outside pictures but with Ohio and March you never know. I just keep hoping for the best and saying it’ll be a nice day but I’m also really concerned about pictures if it does snow. I’m sorry I’m no help but I’m also curious about others experiences.

When I got married the first time (January in Chicago) we had a dusting of snow right before the ceremony. It stopped about an hour beforehand, and it was beautiful; the fluffy kind that made everything sparkle.

    Fast forward to the reception...

Unbeknownst to us, a full on and unexpected blizzard hit during the reception. Two feet in four hours. Luckily all our guests were local, or local enough to stay in the hotel for the night. Our guests took it on the chin, and there was a hilarious drunken snowball fight and some inappropriate snowmen were made. It was fun, but I felt like an absolute shit as hostess.

Getting married in February and farmers almanac is predicting the worst snowstorm the weekend of my wedding, but they also said that for my FSIL wedding and she had a 60 degree day in February. I am actually hoping for a very light dusting of snow just for pictures. What we had here (Long Island) yesterday would be ideal, but nothing more!

We had a huge snowstorm on my wedding day and I got married in the mountains 3 hours away. Guests still came. Our timeline wasn't affected too badly, but it was so cold that we had to take breaks during our outdoor first look photos. Still, it was beautiful.

Make sure you plan for things. If you think it'll rain, get an umbrella. In our case, I knew it would be cold, so I bought a faux-fur lined white cape and muff to wear for our first look and outdoor photos.

The weather ended up bring perfect on my wedding day, but I think pictures of people holding umbrellas on their wedding day are so so cute. I was actually a teeny tiny bit disappointed that we didn't get those lol.

A year ago H and I drove over 10 hours from Chicago to Memphis for my cousins wedding, through snow and ice, after our flight was cancelled. The people who want to be there won't let weather stop them. Neither of us was in the wedding or anything, so that wasn't impacting our decision. I have never not attended a wedding because of local rain or snow. Theoretically had it been a 24+ hour drive instead of 10, I could have missed that wedding just due to time constraints, but it still would have been only indirectly weather related.

Our ceremony n reception was held at the same location...a hotel with a parking ramp n skywalk. No guest had to deal with the weather. We planned for a 1st look with WP pics...those were done outdoors. By the end of the ceremony, it had started to rain, so our sunset pics were scratched.

Our wedding day was October 28th, Chicagoland. Snow flurries in the morning 42 degrees. It was 60 the Wednesday before. We went to a wedding December 2nd in Chicago It was balmy 55. Go figure. We moved our ceremony indoors, still took pics in a park and had the best day.

It looked like rain for most of the day, but we managed to get through our outdoor ceremony and pictures, and then our indoor reception without a drop. Literally the second DH shut my door as we were leaving the reception, it started POURING. It rained on and off throughout our after party.

I'm in Oregon so the rain doesn't effect much. Snow would habe so I'm glad we avoided that. I just prepared to take pictures in the rain.

It POURED all day the day of our wedding! Still sad about it, but first off, have a back up plan!!!! We moved our ceremony indoors, and had covered places to take pictures at. It did not affect our guest count, however, I advise to add extra time in your timeline just in case! Originally I planned on leaving half my hair down, and due to the rain and humidity in north Georgia (where it is always 100%), we had to pin all of it up, which took more time. Just plan for any scenario, and you'll make it all work! I actually love the way the rain turned out in some of our pictures, and our photographer was good enough to do a separate bridal shoot with us later on because she felt she didn't do us justice on the day of! PLEASE don't stress about the weather! It'll just make you miserable, just have back up plans just in case and pray for the best!

It was cold and cloudy the morning of our wedding. We decided it was best to go ahead and move our ceremony inside. It started pouring down rain as soon as my dad and I got to the end of the aisle and rained the rest of the night. We still took pictures outside before the ceremony though. Then I spent the whole next week sick from standing out in the cold.

Ohio at the end of April! It rained in the morning through most of our ceremony, and then stopped for the rest of the day mostly when we wanted pics. It worked out perfectly, but I also had a clear umbrella handy! Tbh, most photographers will tell you it's better to shoot in a cloudy setting anyway.

My friend got married after a snowstorm hit. They took gorgeous pics outside the venue. Some of her guests cancelled but most showed.

It rained...cold, sideways pouring down rain. Everything was indoors except we were scheduled to do outside photos at a nearby nature center. We had to cancel that because it was raining so hard. Our photog was amazing and found places around the venue to shoot. Even the manager was amazed at what she came up with. This was outside through an emergency exit under a little overhang.

It was actually storming on our wedding day--the power even went out at our reception venue! (Thankfully it came back on before we arrived.) Lots of rain and wind, but it did let up enough to take some gorgeous outdoor shots. The rain/wetness really brings out the colors of the greens in the trees and grass. Our photographer also brought one of those clear bubble umbrellas and we used that for a couple pics. My dress DID get pretty wet at the bottom (but not dirty) and my DOC luckily had a towel to help dry it off. Most of our guests still made it, even though they had to drive 1-3 hours in the rain to get there, depending on where they were coming from. Only one guest didn't make it specifically due to the weather. Our timeline was off by about 30 minutes, nothing too bad.

It rained all night and morning before the wedding but it cleared up about 3 hours before the ceremony!
