Did anyone purchase a preservation kit for their gown???

All Smiles, on January 22, 2013 at 8:54 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

I was soo excited to finally purchasing my wedding gown that I didn't even consider buying a preservation kit for safe keeping after the whole event is over. Well I did buy the kit from the bridal store on sale for $99 and was told to either bring my gown back to store for help or I can place it in the postage-paid box to mail it to a company who will dry-clean and seal my gown for safe keeping for up to 30 years without a tint of yellow on my gown..Has anyone considered this??? I've heard dry-clean and storage for a wedding gown is very costly. I've spent too much on my gown to trash or to give away so easily...at least for now.

Yes I purchased the preservation kit from David's Bridal as well. I thought it would be good to keep the gown in good condition for my daughter if she wanted to use it.

I bought one also from Davids. I know the whole bottom will be very dirty after the wedding and I will want it cleaned anyway. One day I would like it to be passed on to a daughter Smiley smile

I bought it from Davids Bridal, got married 11-11-11 and both the dress and kit are still in my closet. I keep telling myself I want pictures of me in my dress (I hate my wedding day hair) and then I will send it off to be preserved.... yeah, its been over a year!

I bought it when i bought my dress because it was 99 if you bought them tovether. Buying it a different day was 199. You might as well if you plan on preserving it

I bought one too ... 24 years ago and I opened it 3x already. Thank goodness it hasn't yellowed. I opened it the first time wanting to wear it on our 5 year anniversary. I couldn't get it over my hips. I took it out for the 2nd time after we moved into our house just to make sure it was ok ... it was. The 3rd time was last year. While having dinner we started talking about our wedding. My daughter wanted me to describe my gown. I said, "I can do better than that!" I brought it out and we all had a ball trying it on and getting married again. I myself wore the dress as a cape type of thing and as a skirt; however I could get it on is how I wore it. I love my gown.

My aunt bought, and used one for her dress 20 years ago. When she opened it up in July (for me to decide if I wanted to use it) there wasn't a single tint of yellow! It works wonders! I will deff be getting it done with my dress as well!

Archival supply companies carry acid-free storage boxes and paper including flat ones that'll fit under beds. Gaylord is the one that comes to mind but an online search will pull up others.

I'm going to be getting one. Even though I dont have a daughter, I'm expecting baby #2 in may, we're having another boy and I'm 99% sure we are done, I do have 2 neices that I could pass the dress down to. Then again one of the boys might get married to someone who doesn't have anyone to pass their dress to them. Either way it will be something to keep my dress looking beautiful

I never planned to preserve mine (I'm going to put it on every year on my anniversary til that sucker doesnt fit) but when I went to get my dress altered I was told the kits don't last as long as they say? I don't know how true it is, but he told me all the ones he knew of you would have to "re do" every 5 years? I opened my aunts that had been in its box for 20+ years and it looked pretty good to me though.

Anyway, I finally just dropped my dress off to be cleaned and its only costing $125 but I have to wait 8 weeks because they only do wedding dresses once a week and there were already 15 waiting ahead of mine. My plan is to keep it in my closet in its bag after I pick it up.
