Did anyone ever spot and miss a period due to high stress?!

Lindsey, on September 3, 2018 at 12:26 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 29
Hello ladies. I honestly wouldn’t think I’d have to post this forum but........if you all could give me insight to you stressing so much that you start to have spotting and have late periods?

y fiancé and I had sex 4 weeks ago. Two weeks later I spotted for three days straight. I missed my period today. I’m very concerned. I don’t have access to a test right now so that’ll eventually happen. But the weird thing is that we both are positive we are not pregnant. We had sex the day after my period ended. And he did not ejaculate inside me. He didn’t even go at all! We stopped after a few minutes when we realized this was unprotected.
Ive been so stressed planning this wedding...including the family drama on both sides...I’ve never missed a period like this! It stresses me out even more!!
Do any of you have similar stories?
Thank you!

This is totally normal - both to spot or to have a missed (or more often; delayed) period due to stress. Sounds like you spotted near ovulation, and then your cycle is a bit irregular due to stress - the time of ovulation can be delayed if you’re stressed or your routine changes in the middle of your cycle.

I can’t definitely tell you what’s going on so you should still do whatever you need to feel sure, but I can assure you that it’s possibly totally normal Smiley smile

Is that something you’ve learned from past experience? I’m late as in one day late. Sooo my heart has been racing all day!!!
I try not to stress but recently, everything with my in laws to be acting so rude, to our destination wedding, moving away from family....all of this stuff is making me so emotional and I’m not expressing anything on the outside. 😂
My fiancé and I said if we are pregnant, that would be astronomical because nothing came out.

I have experienced it before, yes. I understand it’s nerve wracking but try your best to just relax. Holding all that stress can effect more than just your cycle!

Thank you so much! I’ll try to keep you updated. I’m so scared! My fiance and I agreed, this would be called a super baby if we actually got pregnant because the timing does not add up. My period was August 5-9...we had barely sex on the 10th. I spotted the 23,24,25th and now I’m waiting for my period. Today is the 29th day of my cycle.

I’ve missed periods over the years including last month from stress, not eating enough, or working out a lot.

I have definitely missed periods due to stress. We also were very certain I was not pregnant. Taking a pregnancy test really helped to relieve the stress so I would take one as soon as you are able just for peace of mind.

I've missed a fair share of periods and still had spotting. Usually that would happen around the time I changed jobs, or moved, or some other out of the norm circumstance. Are you on the pill? I just went through a 4 month stretch with no period at all where my doctor had to put me on medicine to actually restimulate my ovaries to start it again. Pills can definitely mess with your cycle.

No I’m not on the pill. I’ve been natural my whole life. So spotting is something very very new. And it scared me when I saw it for the first time!

Please take a pregnancy test for your own piece of mind. Yes, stress can do weird things to your period but not using some sort of contraception is what people do when they want to get pregnant. Sperm can live for 7-10 days.

Hi Lindsey! The others give some great feedback here. Our bodies kind of go crazy under stress sometimes. Smiley smile Spotting & missing periods at a time as stressful as wedding planning is justifiable & normal. I have experienced it before as well and I wouldn't worry, you'll get back-on-track soon. Thank you for the support!! How long did your spotting and missed period last? I wrote the 29th day is today but it’s actually 30 now since my period first started. I know it’s early but I’m usually 28-29 days.

Yes, it definitely happens. I missed my period for two cycles once after I had surgery. I would suggest for your own peace of mind to take a test.

Definitely take a pregnancy test. It is quite possible to get pregnant under the circumstances you've described, and it's also possible stress or other factors are affecting your cycle. Other's experiences might be interesting to hear about, but they have no impact on whether or not you are currently pregnant. Also, if your goal is to avoid pregnancy for a time, you may want to seek medical advice -- even if you prefer to use "natural" planning methods -- because NO method is foolproof (except complete abstinence...). Based on your post, it seems like you might benefit from more credible information regarding preventing pregnancy. (I don't mean to be mean, but withdrawl is NOT a highly effective BC method.) Good luck to you!

I completely agree with you! We have been practicing abstinence since we met and became a couple. The day we had sex was the day we got our marriage liscense. We are getting married in 2 months so being pregnant would be the last thing I want! We were hoping to have kids next year.

I also was asking for stories of spotting and late periods just to see if that’s normal. I’ve never spotted or had a late period. So that’s why I freaked out especially after the first time we had sex. We definitely will be taking the test soon when my family doesn’t see...

I just don’t understand how pre-éjaculante could cause pregnancy. That’s the only way I could have gotten pregnant if I am.

Google it.... Unfortunately, it's completely possible. Either way, I strongly encourage you to have a complete medical check up with an OB-GYN (or some family practitioners include this) and have an honest conversation about your reproductive goals and options. Especially once you're married and having sex regularly, you want to be well educated and informed, if you don't want to get pregnant. Good luck to you! Smiley heart

The only time I have ever had spotting for a few days and then missed my period were the 3 times I’ve gotten pregnant. If you plan on using natural family planning to get pregnant/keep from getting pregnant please please please do as much research as you can.

Just FYI it can get you pregnant bc it contains sperm cells. People do sometimes get pregnant this way.

Hi Lindsey! Mine usually skip completely and come back as normal, the next cycle. The spotting can vary too, to the week before/after the expected period dates, as if it's your body trying to rebound and get back on track. But this is me, and everyone is different.

You're still early, however I agree, taking a pregnancy test just-in-case is a good idea. Here you can see when the best time to accurately take a pregnancy test is , being that for these tests to accurately detect a pregnancy, there has to be a sufficient amount of the pregnancy hormone being made in your body.

Agreeing with the others, consulting with a clinic or doctor in your area regarding any concerns and "natural" planning methods is a good idea, too. I hope this helps!
