detachable train

Danielle, on August 1, 2017 at 7:29 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 30

So i'm having my dress custom made. Early in the process we decided no train. I LOVE everything about my dress but I've sorta been doubting the lack of train lately. I mentioned it to my seamstress and she said we could add a detachable train. She tried to give me a visual of how it would look but it was hard to picture. I just hit google images and all of the model photos that come up look like capes for your butt to me....so not exactly the look I'd be going for. Did anyone out there have a detachable train and if so can you share some real photos? Very much appreciated in advance!!

Bumping this up just in case someone who has had/has one sees it this morning.

Do you have a photo of the dress or a mock up? Is it a ball gown, trumpet, mermaid, sheath? That will determine how a detachable train will look. I had a detachable train on my ball gown for my first wedding. Don't have a photo handy but it looked integrated into the dress. With anymore fitted dress, it will likely be more obvious it is a separate piece.

I asked my seamstress to cut the train off my dress. She suggested leaving the lace overlay and cutting the satin underneath. This worked perfectly and made for great photos and an easy bustle.

A cape for your butt is hilarious! I bet she could attach it to look less cape-like Smiley smile

A friend had a detachable train and I didn't even notice until the reception when she had taken it off. I just scanned through her pictures and it was hard to tell how it attached because her veil covered that part.

I've seen them attatched under big butt bows before...

Your seamstress will probably have ideas for how to put one on so that it is less noticeable.

Well, if you don't like the look of the detachable train, why not just bustle a train like most people do?

I have one that I added to mine. My dress will be in white, with a black belt and I'll be adding a black ribbon to the back and on the edging.

Thanks to all who shared your photos!! They are all beautiful and not butt cape like Smiley smile My dress is a little fitted which I think is why I'm a little apprehensive about it. @mrsbeetobe The reason I cant to a bustled train is because we've past the point of no return of having the dress include a regular train.

Can we see the back so we can imagine the butt cape? Sorry, just kidding because I thought that was the funniest thing I heard in a long time Smiley smile

What a beautiful dress...I would love to see the back so see if the train can be attached lower (under the knee level).

Haha @nonna glad you enjoyed it! I agree that I really like the current shape to the back so something lower or not at all is the way to go.

Lol butt cape that just made my day! I have a detachable train on my dress and love it. The lower part of your dress is the same shape as mine. You wouldn't notice that it's detachable until the train is taken off. I have no regrets of doing it and I don't need to stress about finding a second dress for the reception.

Haha @Sarah, happy to hear from someone with a somewhat similar design. does your train attach above or below your butt?

It sits right above my bottom and sort of goes down at an acute angle. It flows really nicely though and pictures will be stunning.

I have one but mine is actually a ball gown skirt that is detachable from a mermaid. The skirt has velcro on it. I don't have a picture on my computer but it has a skirt that starts at the waist and detaches. I hated the idea of a puffy butt

Instead of detachable I just did a bustle instead. That's an idea!

I personally love the look of a detachable train. I don't have one but I love them lol. You can do something sheet so it isn't as noticeable but still has that wow factor!
