Destination Wedding plus At Home Celebration

#paulpartyofthree, on May 21, 2019 at 5:24 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7
My fiancé and I both have huge families. For that reason and a few others we are having a destination wedding in St. Maarten. Because everyone cannot make the trip away, especially our elders, we are considering having a simple celebration in a park about a month after our return so everyone can be able to celebrate and won’t feel left out. I’m trying to decide whether or not we should include this detail of a at-home celebration for those that cannot attend, on the actual wedding invitation so we can give people the option. Please share your opinion.

I would just call it a wedding reception, since you aren't having a true reception for your ceremony and you are just eloping. My future brother in law & his wife eloped in Jamaica, then came back and had a wedding reception where his parents lived.

We're doing the same thing....we only invited immediate family and close friends to Jamaica and we're doing a reception for everyone not invited or those that cant attend the actual ceremony. The only difference is we're doing our reception before our ceremony because I don't want to continue planning ANYTHING after our wedding and we love being unconventional and shaking things up. We're simply creating one invite for everyone going to the reception and giving specific invitations for those going to Jamaica.

    Hi there Smiley smile

    Welcome to the WeddingWire community!

St. Maarten is so gorgeous for a destination wedding! Great choice Smiley smile

This is a great question. Are you inviting everyone to St.Maarten, and assuming a lot will RSVP no? Will there be a wedding reception there also?

I would take into consideration that asking guests to RSVP for both the St.Maarten wedding and the hometown celebration on the one invite may get confusing.

It could be a great idea to have a line in the invite, letting guests know that there will be a celebration at home upon your return for those who can’t make it, perhaps a separate details card with this information.

Will you be asking guests to RSVP for the park celebration or will it be a more informal celebration than this?

Thanks so much for the reply. I am inviting everyone to St. Maarten but realistically I’m sure everyone won’t be able to attend, which I’m ok with because I want to keep it small (about 75 guests). Because it will be a more informal celebration I like the idea with the line in the invite. Thank you for your help😊💛

Thanks for the reply. That was my original idea but he thought our guests would be happy to travel for us, which our family does a lot so I figured it would be the same thing as taking a vaca and we just so happen to get married while away.

That's fine too! I'd just treat it as two separate events for invites/save the dates and the names of the events.
