Destination Wedding (florida Keys)

Hey, so I’m recently engaged and I was wondering if anyone has any tips or advice on destination weddings that aren’t out of the country. My fiancé doesn’t want to get a wedding planner because we’re paying for our wedding ourselves. TIA!

Have you checked out the Islamorada Fish Co? It is one of the most affordable places to host a wedding in the Florida Keys. They provide everything you need (seating for the ceremony, tables, chairs, linens, etc. for the reception) and do all set up, teardown, and clean up for you. They also provide a very affordable buffet option for dinner, and have an optional bar if you would like alcohol at your wedding. They also provide a back up indoor space in case of inclement weather. For 15 people (13 guests + you and your groom), the cost would be $2600 for the venue, use of all their stuff (tables, chairs, linens, etc), and a buffet for your guests.
Here are a few pictures of the venue.

I forgot to mention, it also includes getting ready in a beautiful bridal suite. I will include a link to the vendor in case you are interested

I’m getting married in Sanibel, Fl in July! We are from Philly, so everyone is flying down. No wedding planner. Definitely have your ceremony and reception on site at a resort! Most venues have a “Day of Coordinator”, we were able to meet with ours to discuss food & decorations. I like the virtual venue tour idea —we toured our venue in person in December 2019 when it was safe to travel. Ask for pictures and read reviews! Our resort is offering discounted prices for 3 nights during the wedding weekend. It’s still expensive, but I would for sure ask about your resort’s wedding rates, because they could be cheaper than usual prices! I had to book all of the other outside vendors, which was a lot of work and $, but I have a really specific vision, so I couldn’t avoid this lol. I would ask the venue if they have decorations that you could rent for the day to avoid having to ship a bunch of decor down to the keys. Also — have so much fun! Key West is an unforgettable experience. I LOVE it there!

Thank you for all of your advice and information. We’ve been to key west twice already. He refuses to fly so we drive down. We wanted it there because it’s become one of our facebook places.

We did a domestic destination wedding and did not do a physical or virtual tour; however, by the photos we could tell it was perfect and it ended up being a lovely surprise once we got there! We, along with 20 guests, drove the 12 hours to it and it worked out nicely because we were able to keep everything nice and neat and organized in our vehicles lol It was soooo much fun! 🤍🤍

Puerto Rico is amazing. That’s where we were going first. La Concha Hotel is great and the staff is very amazing! You won’t need a planner there.

Also St.Thomas, VI has some affordable rates for beach weddings and depending on where you are flying from you can get some really good rates. Smiley smile
The keys is nice, but in my experience it is a bit pricey.

I understand, I just meant that out of town seems scary without a planner. I was thinking more of the all inclusive. Congrats and good luck! Post pics of how it turns out.

We’re not flying anywhere because he doesn’t like it. So that’s why we picked the Keys. We’ve been twice already and I know we have some saving up to do but we love it there.

Thank you, it won’t be for another year though if things get more calm in the world. If not then that date could change.

You can for sure do it by yourself. Find an all inclusive situation, the coordinators at the locations usually do a lot to help you and serve as a planner sometimes.

And just get an excel spreadsheet and keep things organized. It’ll be easier for you all if you find an all inclusive venue! The one Chrysta recommended is beautiful !

Goodness, I know. Wedding planning is kind of scary right now. We live in farm country. I thought of just finding a beautiful farm with a huge tree to decorate and getting married there, lol.

I still have time but confused on how to handle it. We have 6 kids between us. Although, his are all grown. Then my parents and his dad are much older. Most of my family are spread out to the north, south and west. It's crazy. Maybe a virtual wedding with only immediate family there?

We have the same situation going on. Family and friends all across the US (and some in other countries). We knew no matter what, a lot of people were going to have to travel. So we decided to just pick a fun location (New Orleans) and whoever can make it can come, and whoever can’t can watch the live stream. We decided we wanted an adult only wedding though (New Orleans is obviously a party town and not really a “family destination” lol), so there will be no children present; including my fiancé‘s son. He will be staying with his mother or grandmother & watching the live stream.

I think this is a wonderful idea. However, I can't do a no kids wedding. My youngest is 14 and my FH has a granddaughter that is 6. He is 14 years older than me. Destination Wedding (florida Keys) 7

Thank you and no he definitely doesn't. He's the most wonderful man too! He travels alot so I may talk to him about the venue you posted when he gets home for a bit, lol. I love the beach! I'm from NC and we both live in TN. He's originally from here. I grew up on North and SC beaches. I love the idea of Charleston or even Savannah.
I've been looking like crazy and I did find a place I LOVE here in TN. Hiawassee river or something like that. They have their "forest" venue and it is perfection!
