Dessert Spreads/ Cookie Table - how many to make?

ShortStack, on December 28, 2016 at 7:45 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

I am planning on having a dessert table at our wedding. I've been looking a lot into freezing bar cookies/ brownies/ cookies, so I can make everything in advance and not have to bake for days leading up to the wedding. I have done a lot of research to make sure nothing looses it's flavor, has a weird consistency, etc. I love to bake and I'll have no issue storing the frozen items.

I just don't know how much to make. We are probably having about 150 people there. Has anyone had experience in something like this and can offer advice? Thanks!

You have 5 stars and you still are honestly asking this?

please don't make your guests eat frozen cookies. If it fails it'll be a disaster. To actually answer your question no, I do not have advice about freezing several varieties of cookies to feed 150 people for my own wedding, because it's a terrible idea

Don't cook/bake any of the food for your own wedding.

That's a big old "Nope!" from me

Are you freezing the baked cookies or just the dough?

If I were a guest and I knew you'd baked the dessert table stuff yourself, I wouldn't touch any of it.

Nope, nope, nope. That's what professionals are for.

ETA: How mortified would you be if you found out a guest complained to your caterer about a hair in the desserts and the caterer told them that you provided the desserts, not them. Yuuuuck.

Try doing a search for 'Pittsburgh cookie table'. They're a big thing in that area, and you should be able to find some past advice given about number of cookies per guest and number of varieties of cookies.

I would contact a local bakery or look into ordering from somewhere like Costco or Sam's Club. No matter when you make them, even a month in advance, baking 150+ cookies is going to be terrible. You probably need to have at least 3 cookies or baked goods per person. I know if FH and I went to a wedding with a dessert table, he'd eat at least 5 things.

I wouldn't be eating anything if I knew that the bride had made it herself, and had frozen it in advance.

We are doing enough cake for everyone and 250 mini desserts. We are having 150 people at the wedding plus serving late night snacks. All of that after a full dinner and appetizers during cocktail hour. Nobody is going hungry. HaHa!

If you are completely skipping cake then I would say at least 3 items per person.

My venue won't even allowed food that wasn't prepared in a certified/professional kitchen. While I agree with PPs and think this is honestly not a great idea and you need to reevaluate, if you are moving forward, check with your venue before you do all that work.

That sounds like a lot of added stressors that you shouldn't have to worry about on your wedding day. You should be enjoying your day, not worrying about how many cookies you need!

Freezer cookies? Ew. Is that really a thing? How do they not get nasty? Shows how much I know.

Please, as PP's have stated - hire a professional to make them.
