Dessert Options

Katie, on July 23, 2020 at 2:18 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 14
Our 2021 wedding will be in the middle of summer & it’s outside- so it’ll be super hot! We’ve been exploring different options for desserts to have served, but are worried about everything melting. Does anyone have any fun ideas for desserts that are summer-heat friendly?

I should add we’ve looked at a company to bring in ice cream that they’ll serve out of an old fashioned truck. I really like this idea, but want to possibly have other options for those who can’t or don’t prefer eating ice cream.
Thanks friends! 😊

You could do fruit, banana pudding or brownies. You could also do like a strawberry shortcake in a jar and wait until the last minute to put on the whipped topping!

How hot is it that you're worried about the food melting but not the guests sweating?

Fruit, brownies, most cookies should work. Ice cream truck would be awesome.

Mini pies are fun! Cookies(non iced), brownies, cake pops and bar desserts. I would talk to a few local bakeries and let them know of your situation. Most of them will be happy to give you some recommendations of what they can do.

A cake sitting in the hot sun for several hours is a recipe for disaster. It will quickly ruin the buttercream. Even in a tent, a cake won’t last long. Anything with milk, cream, or butter is going to turn quickly. It doesn’t take much heat.

Snocones! Or popsicles that aren't dairy to add variety with the ice cream.

Fresh fruit popsicles would up the fancy factor beyond the basic cherry popsicles of your childhood. Mexican paletas are delicious, a common brand is La Michoacana, but there are many options. Depending on your town, there might be a more local fancy popsicle store too - like this one in Seattle https://www.seattlepops.com/

We included mini cheesecakes, Oreo shooters, and banana pudding shooters on our dessert bar, none of which melt. So those are good options.

Also consider that your desserts shouldn't be sitting out for a super long period of time. I would assume your caterer or event staff wouldn't bring them out until right before your reception starts.

How about mousses, fools or syllabub? All the creamy soft goodness of ice cream but without the need to freeze them. cool in the fridge will do fine.
