While I understand that not everyone will love cheesecake (although how can you not? Smiley smile, we want to keep things simple, if they don't want cheesecake, no big deal. However now I've come to the realization that my own children won't eat cheesecake and maybe I do need to offer another option. I have not yet convinced FH of thisSmiley smile

So....along the lines of SIMPLE....picnic in a park simple.....what do you think I should offer? Here's what I've thought of so far, open to others:

s'mores bar

homemade chocolate chip cookies

caramel apple bites (haven't figure out details...)

I am also potentially open to the idea of something not sweet if it "goes" with our requirements of "fall theme, simple and inexpensive" Smiley smile

Thanks for all the ideas ladies! I need to talk to FH next I think. I talked to mom over lunch and she immediately was like BARS BARS BARS. All of the sudden I felt like a Midwestern pot luck was happening. I want to be classy in a cheap picnic kind of waySmiley smile

I think chocolate chip cookies are on the list for sure, guessing FMIL would be happy to make her MIL's sugar cookie recipe and I'll talk to FH about other options. I ate too much at Chipotle for lunch and can't think about more food for awhile! Smiley smile

The sky is the limit for desserts that won't break the bank. If your venue allows, see if you can get them from Costco or the local grocery store. No one will know or care as long as they taste good.

    Brownies, cookies, pies, danishes, etc
