Decorating with gossamer

Justine, on October 22, 2010 at 3:58 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Has anyone ever used gossamer? I'm thinking about using it for walls & ceiling at reception. wanted to know how hard it is to work with, what do you use to hang it, etc.

I have not, but it's an idea I'm interested in too. I'd like ideas on how to suspend drapery from ceiling beams, kinda like this. Looking for a vendor to do it, and not having much luck at all.

There's a beach and a lake right outside the door, and my son and his fiance are having a very casual wedding next summer. but figuring out how to decorate this space is driving me crazy! Ladies....?

There's a bunch of different fabrics you can use, but gossamer isn't one of them. Whether you hire a pro or do it yourself, make sure the fabric is rated at least FR or IFR. BTW, we travel. Where are you?

I know FR stands for fire resistant, what does IFR mean? Oregon here...

Inherently Flame Retardant. Flame Retardant means that it is treated and that if washed, the flame treatment is now gone. You have to apply something to make it Flame Retardant again. Many theatrical supply houses sell a product that you dip the material in to make it flame retardant. IFR means the fabric it will remain so forever.

Sherry, ask the venue who did that draping. Also check with "wedding decorators or designers."
