Decor advice: mixing mirrors and acrylic; mixing modern and old world

I could use some decor advice! Our wedding style is glamorous, metallic, and elegant. It'll be in a hotel with a similar look. The hotel itself has a lot of gold, grey, glass, mirrors, mirrored furniture in the lobby and hallways. The room and halls are a pretty neutral white, gold and grey palette.

So far, for decor, the main thing we've chosen is the centerpieces: they'll be gold candlelabras with tea lights and strands of crystal beads hanging off them. There will also be florals incorporated but exactly how is still TBD.

I have a few decisions I need to make and a lot of it seems to revolve around the signs and frames.

1. Can I mix mirrors and acrylic? We are debating between a mirrored or an acrylic welcome sign. We are planning to do mirrored rounds under the candles at cocktail tables and we have mirrored chargers just at the head table. We have an acrylic card box because that's what someone gave us and I was considering a metallic cake stand. I think they both fall under the glamorous, elegant, hotel wedding look but one is going to be a bit more vintage and one is more modern. We were thinking about doing the acrylic sign since it's easier to DIY (thanks to posters here for the advice!) but it's a more modern look and I'm not sure it'll go with the candlelabras. Which leads me to my next question...

2. Can I mix old world and modern? I feel like the hotel kind of does in that it blends an old world glamour and gold hardware with modern clean lines and shades of black, grey and white. Acrylic would be more of the clean lines. Mirrors more old world. I also have a number of white and gold frames I was thinking about using and they're a mix of the two styles but all tied together by the color palette and glamorous, elegant look. Is our theme enough to make it ok to mix these looks or should I choose one and stick with it?

I know I can do whatever I want but I want it to look good and we can't afford a stylist! Thanks!

Yes! Mix away! Eclectic style is in right now! Plus acrylic and mirror/metallic look great together. I would advise, however, that anything with words you do NOT put on mirrors. They are incredibly difficult to capture in photographs. The photos will include images of the room you didn't intend on and could potentially ruin your look in photos. Metallic tableware and accents is great! It can really show off the items on top of them. Our wedding is also combining modern with other themes. Don't worry too much about matching the decor of the hotel- instead, focus on the look that you want. The hotel will accent your decorations...it doesn't have to be the other way around. Golds and silvers go together well and according to recent magazines are in style to mix and match. White is a great accent color for them! May want to think about having one type of a palette color, too, for a small accent just to mix things up.

Whoops. I meant an acrylic cake stand.

Thanks for the tips on the mirrored signs. I love the hotel decor. It was why I picked it so I want to choose something that compliments it. I think it mixes both styles but somehow makes it work! They had a stylist and I don't! I should have added that we do have a color palette: burgundy, blush pink, gold and white. I did consider mixed metallics too. Smiley smile

Have you searched Pinterest for some inspo pics of what this could all look like together? If not, I would definitely recommend you create a board and start pinning! It’s so helpful in visually thinking through your design ideas Smiley smile
