deciding to elope in MD with parents/children only...suggestions?

Ready to be Mrs T, on January 12, 2013 at 1:32 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

Hello WW friends,

I had just found a venue, picked a scheme, finished the guest list and started working on the honeymoon when all of the FI's family DRAMA started! How they managed to wait so long to start up is actually amazing. Needless to say, I am sad to say that I have cancelled the whole thing. BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD! Between myself and my fiance, we have 4 children (not with eachother)...I have decided on just eloping with the parents and kids but would like to stay close to home (total of 10 people not including myself and hubby to be). We live in Prince George's County, Md.

Does anyone one have any ideas on places where we can make this drama free event happen?

Well, at least you'll still have a honeymoon free of family, right? Smiley smile For such a small number of people you can likely have it at a park or a restaurant's private room. I suggest using WW's vendor search tool. Actually, Recommended Vendors may work for you better -- it asks you some questions (budget, location, # of guests) and gives you recommendations based on that.

And welcome to WW, Faith! I hope you'll stick around and update your avatar (the rings) to any unique picture so we can remember you when we help you in the future (and to tell you apart from possible spammers!) This post tells you how to do that and more about the forums: https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/welcome-to-the-weddingwire-forums-please-read-if-you-are-new/b433c40c1a62b96a.html

Annapolis has some really scenic venues that vary in price and setting. If on a budget...Quiet Waters Park had woods, lake with gazebo, as well as waterfront locations. Several restaurants...Yellowfin, Severn Inn, and others have great food and are nice restaursnts on the water. The tour boats offer another inexpensive venue...$13 per adult to board and can have small ceremony on board. Could get married at State Courthouse in historic dwntwn....I see that a lot...and then have dinner dwntwn. Just some ideas. Annapolis is fun place for a weekend family trip.

The unfortunate thing about many elopement packages...that I am now learning...is that many of them only allow you to book 60-90 days in advance...not feeling the "rat race" to secure a last minute date!

I see your profile picture is that of a lion. After you have eloped consider a honeymoon in South Africa to the Greater Kruger. http://www.elegantplaces.co.za/south-africa/safari/mohlabetsi-safari-lodge. This is where I got married but it is also the perfect honeymoon destination to escape and let nature restore your soul.

Oh I feel for you!!! I almost cancelled ours two weeks ago when some drama happened but I got through it. Iwanted to go to vegas. You want to slope here in md? Why don't you check out my location. It is the tea room of gambrills states park. State park, you are probably thinking of a tacky shelter but its not, its a room with a fireplace, kitchen, and balcony with a view that overlooks forty miles of mountain including md and Pennsylvania. And there is a stone patio called an overlook very close by that has an equally breath taking view. It fits forty people (max) inside and 30 max outside. Cost me 300 to rent for two days. It's in gambrills state park, frederick, md. Also, there is the national arboretum in DC, it is absolutely beautiful if you have ever been, gardens and bonsai trees, azalea forest for the summer bride, all kinds of cool stuff. You could do a cruise in the inner harbor, they have diner cruises you could rent it out for the night.

Also, what about montpelier mansion in laurel? It's beautiful and very private. it is just off of 197 near the exit for 295. here it is: http://www.pgparks.com/places/eleganthistoric/montpelier_rental.html I've seen it and its very nice you wouldn't need to decorate much its already beautiful and its in pg county so it would be really close! I think that one is your best bet..
