December/winter Brides?

Hannah, on September 17, 2019 at 3:45 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 23

I am getting married in December! I live in Florida so it could be either 80 degrees or 40 degrees on the day of the wedding and both are "normal" so I was just wondering what some of the other winter brides are planning on doing? My dress is spaghetti strap and my girls are wearing tank strap dresses so all of our arms will be exposed. We have decided that if it's too cold/rainy, we will have the ceremony inside (reception barn). But we would much prefer outside. So if it was a relatively cool day (say 60s) where the guests could stand to sit outside for 30 minutes or so, what would you do/what are you planning to do for you and your girls? Just be cold for a little bit and deal with it? Shaws? Coats? I don't want to cover our dresses and this might just be another stupid thing for me to stress about but I'm trying to come up with a plan. Lol.

I'm getting married February 29th in Maryland, so the weather could do anything. We're having it indoors in a beautiful library, so I have one less thing to worry about (unless we get a blizzard! AHHH no!)

I mean, this is coming from someone who has real winters, but 60 doesn't seem that bad? I'd be stoked for that, lol!

Haha, Florida weather is so unpredictable! It does get down pretty low here (I'm in the Northern most part of the state in the Panhandle). It's gotten down into the single digits a few times over the last few years and the humidity here makes it feel colder, but I have no idea what the weather is going to do that day. 60s wouldn't be bad I think for guests because they would hopefully have at least a light jacket. I'm just thinking I have no idea what me and the girls are going to do aside from just being cold (60 is chilly for us, okay? HAHA).

Haha, I know. I lived there for 2 years when I was in my late 20s. Everyone would bundle up when it got to 60, but I lived for it! Haha, I got so many looks walking around without a jacket.

    It's all perspective.

I wouldn't make them uncomfortable though. Especially if it's outside. Maybe you can get pretty scarves for them? Are pashminas still a thing? They're beautiful and cozy. It would also make for a lovely bridesmaid gift, imo.

I’m getting married in NC in November which could also be 80 or 40. If it’s too cold we’ll do it inside, but if it’s at least 60 I have pashminas for me and my girls and blankets for any guests who want one. But if guests showed up without a coat or jacket I would be seriously surprised. The reception will be inside.

My completely outside November wedding in Florida is a big risk. It could be 95, it could be 50, it could be pouring (that one is unlikely). I have no idea how to plan for the weather. We’ll be on the beach so hopefully there’ll be a breeze if it’s hot, and there’s lots of shade. But seriously, why do we do this to ourselves?!

I'm getting married in January in Florida! I'm hoping it won't be too chilly... I also have spaghetti straps. We're getting married in Titusville. I'm originally from the Daytona Beach area, and the weather is soo hit or miss. I'm hoping it'll be just right. The last few years though, it's been relatively warm, so I'm trying not to worry too much. I'd rather it be too chilly than too hot though. Our venue is primarily outdoors, but there is an area where we can be inside if we need to be. I think we'll just deal with being a little chilly. I know once we all start dancing, we'll be thankful it's cool outside lol

Hello, wedding date twin!! The last two years it has snowed here in NC!! So I’m hoping it doesn’t this time!! 🤞🏻Our wedding is going to be indoors because I know it’s going to be cold 🥶 here. I would at least have them to wear a pretty ivory shawl that would accommodate their dresses.

Tennessee winter bride (getting married in Alabama) here! I & my bridesmaids will be in strapless dresses. Our ceremony & reception will be indoors, but we're planning on taking some pictures outside. I got a beautiful faux fur shaw to wear outside. It's really warm too! Smiley smile

I'm a Southern bride too, so the struggle is real! I'm having everything indoors, but if any part of my wedding was outdoors I'd provide shawls or blankets!

Okay definitely had to google what a pashmina was. LOL. But those could work! The girls dresses are sparkly gold so I'd have to find a really nice looking one but maybe red (wedding is christmas colors). Thanks for the idea!

I think I'm going to get some pashminas as well! I agree, most guests would bring a jacket and I think I'm not super worried about the guests, just don't want my girls to be too cold. Having blankets on hand though is a great idea too!

Lol I was thinking the same thing! We intentionally chose a barn that could accommodate everyone in case we decided to have the ceremony inside as well, but I don't want to have to move tables/chairs and I have just always pictured my wedding outside so here's hoping this is a moot point and the weather cooperates for both of us!

Oh yeah, you're near central Florida right? So hopefully it'll be warmish for you! I'm in the Pensacola area. 2 years ago in January it was snowing here and absolutely freezing for several weeks at a time. Last year, it seemed like we had maybe one week (not consecutively) of winter. Lol. So it really is just soup in the air. I would also rather be cold than hot and if it comes down to it, we will move everything inside but I'm thinking if it's bearable, we are just going to have it outside and deal with it being a little chilly.

Yeah a previous poster suggested pashminas and I think I'm going to get some for my girls "just in case"! I love snow and cold weather but I don't want to be standing outside in spaghetti straps in it. Lol.

Where did you get it? And do you have a picture? I think I might get my girls red pashminas to go with their gold sequin dresses but I honestly have no idea what to wear with mine because I think red would be too much.

Right! I'm holding out hoping it's going to be mild and cool but not cold but you just never know around here. I'm now thinking pashminas for my girls and maybe a few buckets with blankets in them for guests that need them.

Mine came from a local bridal salon. It was originally $150, but I got it from another bride that only wore it for 2-3 hours for $75. I’ve seen a lot on Amazon around $40, though!
