December wedding

Hi Gals! Oh man the wedding planning has begun!
I have a question for you ladies and would love to hear some thoughts/advice! We are thinking of getting married in a barn but unfortunately the only thing that they have there during winter is a wood stove. How do you think we can make this barn warmer? I asked them about placing several electrical heaters all around, but they said it will still not make it warmer. We live in the Midwest, in Indiana so it certainly does get cold and so far in the weather app I know it’s not totally accurate, but it says it will be around 33 degrees. That’s cold....so yeah stressing out here! Would love to hear your suggestions! Thank you!

Give blankets/gloves/hats out as gifts and have coffee, hot cider, and/or hot chocolate available. Try and keep people moving as much as possible. Not much you can do in a barn with heat since they aren’t insulated very well. Maybe have real candles as decoration if the venue allows it.

Which is more important to you, the date or the venue? Because one of those needs to be moved. I am surprised the venue owner actually allows events in the dead winter when they know they can't heat it properly. I got married in December in California where the temperatures during the day are in the 60s and still had he ceremony and reception indoors. We had cocktail hour outdoors but had heat lamps, a big fire pit and blankets for everyone. This was fine for the short duration of the cocktail hour. Your reception needs to be indoors with adequate heating for your guests.

Yup. Everyone will clear out of your reception very, very early if it’s in a barn with only a wood stove for heat at 33 degrees. I know it sucks, but either pick a warmer date or a warmer venue.

I agree with this 100% and I would leave the wedding if I were a guest

It would still be too cold those all things that could keep someone warm in late fall/early spring, but not in the winter(In my opinion)

    Clapping!!!

I agree 100% if you want a winter wedding in the Midwest it should be indoors for the comfort of your guests. If you are in love with the barn wedding then move the date to fall or spring/summer.
